For the Dragon's Shadow event (multifaction cards cost 1 less) I was expecting to see a lot of decks relying on Smugglers and Evenhanded Golem, so I built a deck intended to punish that. With the cost reduction from the event, by the time your opponents are playing 2 drops to try to block, this deck can play 2 or even 3 cards per turn and usually just runs them over. There are some really busted combos too, for example:
Bear Arms + Milos, Unwavering Idealist: The first unit you play gets +3/+3, the next gets +4/+4, and all the while Milos becomes an attacking threat.
Highland Sharpshooter + Warhelm: Classic Rakano Aggro. Give the top unit of your deck a huge buff, plus charge. If it happens to hit Fearless Nomad or Red Canyon Smuggler then it comes with evasion to boot (Smuggler can grab Elder's Feather from the market).
Turn 2 Milos, Turn 3 Finest Hour + Highland Sharpshooter + Warhelm: How about attacking for 12 on turn 3 and giving the top unit of your deck +9/+7 and charge? Yeah, good luck beating that. :)
Notes on cards:
is arguably the weakest card in the deck. One of the most important decisions to make is whether to keep your opening hand, and if Oni Ronin is your only unit it may not be good enough. There may be a case to cut some number of Oni Ronins for more Sword of Icaria
or Milos, Unwavering Idealist
is solid at 1 cost and can do busted things with Milos, Unwavering Idealist
, but there may be other options in that slot. Longbarrel
is a card I'd be interested in trying.
For the market, all of the cards play a vital role except for Ijin's Workshop
. I put it in to have access to Ijin's Choice
in case I ran into Sunyveil's warp deck, but it turns out to be unnecessary since we usually deal lethal in that matchup before they can combo off anyways. It could be replaced by Defiance
or Crownwatch Standard
to help in aggro mirrors, or perhaps Rebuke
to deal with a pesky Stonepowder Alchemist
