Information

First attempt at an update for Icaria Blue in awhile. First days testing at 7-3.

Two things I'm working on is wanting to fit in X number of Eilyn's Choice, most likely 3 for either SoI or Runehammer, and how many, if any, copies of Drake. He can win games himself at times but the fact that he dies to Hailstorm is a downside. I still have to see whether it's benefits of "Sheepifying" a high-value target outweigh the detrimental aspect of it.

Just want to ask, since I'm not understanding it, but why is Cauldron Cookbook so good/used so much? I understood it in a Tavrod deck, since it could discard the firebombs, but beyond that.. what purpose does it serve?

No hate, pure curiosity, trying to learn some things about the new meta and it's one thing I can't wrap my head around.

No problem, sometimes you can't grasp on idea well except in hindsight after having it explained to you.

It's a relatively cheap draw engine with a cheap initial cost. The chance of drawing a Firebomb is fairly low, though it obviously increases the more times you use it, and the longer the game goes the more value you get from a 2-cost card. It has the potential to draw more than the two cards you'd get from Wisdom of the Elders in a longer game.

It works very well in say FJS because of the access to high value Lifesteal cards such as Vara and Rizahn that help to offset the potential of hitting yourself repeatedly in grindier matchs. For this particular deck though it doesn't have as much Lifesteal. So, you have to weigh the potential to outdraw an opponent on a control deck with potentially losing for example against an Aggro matchup that's dragging or a grindier Midrange deck. It's meta-dependent whether you want to run Cookbooks mb or switching them out for Wisdoms in my opinion since while Wisdom might not dig you was far in your deck it allows you to play it on your opp's turn and has a lower cost to draw 2 cards, i.e. 3 for Wisdom vs. 8 for Cookbook.

So if your meta isn't control heavy consider switch them out for Wisdoms like Mail is suggesting. But if it is I personally feel, not know for certain since I still need to test the deck more, that more than just a Cookbook in the Market is ideal. If you have any other questions just ask, I'm always happy to help.

while I disagree with its use here outside of a market card (since FJP already has access to Wisdom and Strategize, you don't really want multiple cookbooks), cookbook is actually comparable to a wisdom of elders every turn after the first that shuffles in firebombs as a downside. Since cauldron cookbook does not require a card when you use the effect, it gives you the same effective cards as wisdom would. You will usually only draw 1-2 firebombs at most (unless you're using two cookbooks a turn), so the downside is mostly irrelevant
