Are there reasons to play this over TJS? It seems that primal offers much weaker options than shadow for this type of deck.l

Definitely not, I just enjoy to play this version better.

I think FJP is the better armory shell, since FJS has better disruptive units to play, but maybe not, anymore. Hailstorm is less relevant now that the meta has come around to setback. Nonetheless, I'd start with temur as a rakano artisan deck and go from there.
