Hey guys, Eva here, coming up with my hot brew for the new campaign. I took my old JPS control shell, and added two special spices into it.
The main spice is
Tome of Horrors, the only “finisher” in the deck. It only takes up 2 slots in the main and 1 in the market, so you can fit in ample removals and draw spells, and have very few dead draws in the early game. It starts generating value as fast as turn 4, and it wins games by itself. Something to note when playing with it:
1. Unless your opponent does nothing in the early game, it’s better to start stealing cards after you’ve got 7 mana to be able to play a removal in the same turn. Don’t be hesitant about shifting it away in the early game.
2. Prioritize drawing your own cards if you are running low on removals or having a lot of draw spells stuck in your hand.
3. Don’t ignore the passive ability. It pops face aegis whenever your blue merchant deals combat damage. (There are also a few games in which I milled the opponent out with 2 to 3 tomes for the meme.)
I have to admit It’s just the most fun to kill your opponent with only their cards. I literally laughed out IRL doing so.
The second one is less of a hype but a lot more useful. It’s
Felrauk's Choice. It has 2 very powerful yet conditional modes.
The first mode, paired up with
Wanted Poster, can generate insane value. It gets back the
Wanted Poster and draws 2 cards on top of being a universal removal, and with 3
Re-read you can get back
Felrauk's Choice and do it again. The explosive card draw engine alone can take down any grindy midrange such as FJS with ease. Besides,
Wanted Poster and
Re-read are very good cards by themselves in this deck. Note that it could be a bit awkward to draw multiple
Felrauk's Choice without any
Wanted Poster to combo, so it’s a good idea to always keep one
Wanted Poster in your hand.
The second mode, very effective against hand disruption such as
Sabotage from
Regent's Tomb, and
Royal Decree, so keep it up if your opponent plays a merchant on 3, it’s gonna be back-breaking for the opponent to get their spell negated while also losing their
Display of Ambition or
Garden of Omens. It can also protect you from burn spells if you’re playing against Stonescar Aggro and Skycrag Burn. And most importantly, it fits the grand theme of this deck, it STEALs the spell, wohooo~~
When building this deck, I sorted of expected it to be a meme deck, but it ended up having an above 50% win rate, on top of bringing me so much fun. Since I’m pretty busy IRL recently and don’t have a lot of time to test and improve the removal comp, it’s far from ideal atm. I’d really appreciate it if you guys can share your suggestions on it. Finally, I hope you guys will enjoy the deck as much as I do.
