This deck is based off of the ideas from the two decks listed below by For Grim deck by chaated and Masters Greed Charge Rod deck by QuestionableStain
First off, one of my favorite decks was the Charge Rod deck by SirRhino.
This deck was a blast to play and worked because every card moved towards the massive combo at the end.
When
Soulfire Drake was 5, the deck had a curve of threats from 5-8.
Every card was fire so
Kaleb, Uncrowned Prince was the ultimate finisher. Every card had a charge or flying keyword.
Heart of the Vault is the only exception but is still a target because of
Alluring Ember and
Soulfire Drake.
The rest of the deck is all ramp and spells to help you get to your combo.
So when I saw people were making functional decks with
Divining Rod and
Answer the Call I obviously got excited. The problem I have with chaated and QuestionableStain's decks are that they aren't focused enough.
The biggest problem I have with QuestionableStain's deck is Bullet Shaper. While it is great to play the combo earlier, Bullet Shaper itself is not a target for rod and hitting Bullet Shaper with Answer feels terrible and hitting Shaper with Answer AND rod is the unholy grail. Otherwise, the deck is a simple update with FoA cards to the original Charge Rod deck.
chaated's tournament deck added a few cool things that I thought were amazing.
Specifically,
Icaria, Valkyrie Captain and
Unseen Commando were great additions. Almost everything played has two keywords and Icaria ramps while providing a body early game. But again, the deck is too unfocused. Now, rod is made even worse while Answer is made better with
Deepforged Plate. It just feels so bad when you Divining Rod Icaria and miss Kaleb or Rod
Whirling Duo and miss your flyers.
A comment by FistofSteel in Questionable Stain's deck made me realize that Winchest Merchant was flying so WHY NOT MAKE EVERYTHING FLYING??? And then I realized that you could have VALKYRIES with a perfect 5-7 curve which we already know is good.
This. Deck. Is. So. Fun. You can't charge anymore but now there's lifesteal on your top-end to help you stabilize.
The power base can be improved and I actually don't know what to put in the market yet because I've only used this deck in Gauntlet but it has been so fun. 4
Amilli, Cloudmarshal may be correct. I managed to go 7-0 against the Limitless Possibilities deck (the crazy auto-Crown deck).
