I've been trying to play Feln Midrange for a few weeks, and this version was created right after the balance patch in April 2024. It's designed to win the midrange mirror that's been occurring most games as Fire-based aggro decks became weaker with the nerfs to
Calm Instructor and
Grove Supplier.
This deck usually wins by beating down with one or two resilient units while keeping the enemy side clear.
Matchups:
Against aggro, kill their units ASAP and don't worry about getting full value from your cards. However, this matchup is tough because you take a lot of damage removing enemy units with relic weapons and
Dangerous Gambit.
Against decks that aren't putting much pressure on you (the mirror, Praxis-based midrange,
The Great Rift decks, etc.), do your best to keep an answer for any threat. So, for example, you usually should avoid playing
Centipede Keeper without activating its spellcraft.
Against opponents that play few to no units, this deck struggles because then removal spells are dead draws.
Another weakness is relic-based decks, since
Formbend is the only real answer in this deck to
Star-Reader's Tools or
Veena's Masterpiece.
Deck-building considerations:
Feed the Hecaton is a 2-of because of
Tight-Lipped's popularity.
Reusable Femur and
Kelmak's Spear are 3-ofs because they're not great when you draw multiples, and aren't ideal against aggro.
The Market is pretty self-explanatory, although maybe
Beastly Disruption or
Heavy Hail should be maindecked. I tried including
Mirror Image and
Crackling Bauble in the market, but neither worked well.
I included
Morbid Deal in an older version of Feln Midrange, and it was very good at times, so it might be worth experimenting with, but I cut it for influence reasons. I also cut
Murgo the Bone Guy for influence reasons, and because it doesn't quite match the main gameplan.
Lipa, Witch of the Woods is another strong unit that I don't think matches the gameplan, but it might be good. Also,
Enormous Anura might be worth including if aggro becomes more popular.
Edit: Right after posting this version, I won 5 in a row and reached Masters for the first time!
