With the release of Valley Beyond, it's time for an update to Elysian Spells! While this list is similar to one of the lists I tested before Worlds, it takes a little bit of inspiration from Collecter's build and incorporates
Linrei Evangel, a card that was suggested to me by Mail. Evangel is important here because it accelerates our development, allowing us to cast
Wump & Mizo, enable
Jarrall Ascending and enable
Master Conjurer ahead of schedule more frequently. The cost is that we're ostensibly running four copies of Grizzly Bears, but as we'll see, there's a lot more going on here.
Trick Throw is an essential component of this deck. Along with
Strategize and
Primal Etchings, Trick Throw gives you a way to utilize excess cardboard. Often, you'll turn an Evangel or a copy of
Accelerated Evolution into a snowball, at which point you're getting a crude imitation of pre-nerf Hurler. Although it'll never be as good as Hurler used to be, I think this is one of the better fate/echo configs because cheap interaction spells are exactly what this deck wants, and as a bonus we get to utilize blank cardboard in our hand.
Dinosaur Nest is one of the strongest cards in Valley Beyond, and as such it sees a lot of play in both constructed formats. Since Elysian Spells can cast Nest, we want to run Nest (unless it gets nerfed hard enough). We're running
Mandatory Retirement maindeck over
Equivocate in order to have the ability to answer more than one Nest.
The market is pretty straightforward, with Equivocate trading places with Mandatory Retirement and
Dazzle serving as an additional piece of countermagic.
I've been enjoying playing this deck, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it continues to develop over time. See you on ladder ; )
