the deck i brought to the
saturday showcase, hugely inspired by paradox's
MirrorCrag.
in a world without
Torch/
Annihilate,
Cloudsnake Harrier seemed particularly salient.
i expected a huge density of
Hailstorm which led me towards more durable/sticky threats rather than
Crunch, the Hoarder and
Poaching Drake (but it turned out only Mail brought them)
Common Cause might seem like a strange choice, but i kept tweaking the mana base and couldn't find a reliable way to get
Jotun Feast-Caller above 7X% to cast on curve. it turns out
Seek Power is hugely important for 3 influence anything outside of a mono deck.
yet with 12 warriors, this card bumped the percentage
to 81% so i ran with it.
i made a massive oversight of both AP Mid and Xenan with
Tavrod, Auric Broker blanking my entire stun angle with
Entangling Vines.
if we had a chance to play more of this format, i think
In Cold Blood would be a wise card to utilize as
Amilli, Cloudmarshal also seems strong.
otherwise, i actually spent way longer brewing for this event than i should have, mainly getting distracted by the prospect of playing
Time Flies (
warp,
wide combrei)
some other rough sketches:
a very strange spellcraft deck (would have been crushed by
Slay)
elysian night maul
3 faction unseen tribal (
Clutchmate should have been terrible)
elysian night maul was the list i was expecting to be the most powerful if control made a presence at the event. mainly, because at it's core it's a tempo aggro deck with heavy nightfall and can have access to
Darkbolt and
Winter's Grasp.
overall, i think it might be one of the more interesting formats to be spawned - especially if a set 1 rotation ever does come about and it's always fun to ask "what if...?"
