Lampys' Madlysian Hunters
Originally designed as a tweak on Elysian Mid to try and steer round chalice and Big Combrei when I got back to the game a few days back after a break due to my dad passing away and didn't think I'd make Masters this month.
Throw in some discussion with Ahorn and a very unusual slant to the whole Dawnwalker thing and this beast was born, Gold3 to Masters in about 5 hours actual play over 2 days and a whole 4 losses on the way.
We present the abomination that is "that deck that actually redeemed Hunting Pteriax from the Gutter".
Main tweaks from normal mid.
No Wasps - no space and we have perma and crystallise to take out most things.
No Instinct - we have better uses for power than plinking with Dawnwalkers... like crystallise and then swing with everything.
4... yes 4 Hunting Pteriax - nothing is going to prepare you for the first time you have 5 up in his turn and Walkers in the void and he plays Harsh Rule, and then you drop this guy in and swing for double figures in your turn... it's sublime.
Matchups
Chalice : Unless you get power or influence screwed it's a win between either sheer overwhlem or an EOT Hunter after they rule, even late game Crystallise can get you the win against their "better board state."
Armory : We have Walkers and an ambush unit big enough to break unbuffed Daisho/Maul/Warden/Icaria, and backlash for rule and Rise... nuff said
Stonescar Variants : One of the tougher ones, but still winnable with proper play of perma, backlash and crystallise. Of the the two chancy matchups this is the preferred.
Rakano Variants : Hates Plate, still winnable like Stonescar... did we mention this deck really hates Plate. Often you'll need to suicide a hunter or two into the Plate unit and hope to stabilise.
Feln Aggro : We tend to outvalue the units, and if they storm we just recurse. Usually not an issue especially if you squelch their draws and also hold Perma for chacu and BSH.
Feln Control/FelnScar : We really outvalue them, early Obelisk is your friend here but not needed as such. Squelch draws and hold the ambush till needed.
Tokens ( both praxis Ahorn / praxis ManuS and mono Fire ) : We have ambush, we have perma, we have crystallise, we have Cirso... we really only lose to power screw in this matchup.
Kalis/Madness decks : We have recursion, backlash and crystallise. Job Done.
Shimmer : We survive Crystallise, they don't. Beyond that it's just a case of playing sensibly and don't get power screwed.
I've not really ran into anything else so far apart from something that seemed like iBlue, again the deck ran too fast to see what if anything could have been an issue. Sometimes 17 to the face turn 6 on a crystallised board will just do that to decks.
If we've got a creative guild here, I volunteer. I could give a rat's behind about winning/grinding but love to experiment. I DID post a deck yesterday that seems to be rolling though, Ain't no Grave.
Though could also have been MJiggy as he nabbed the list off me just before it was posted here, or someone that saw it on Reddit.
Weirdly enough Feln usually isn't an issue unless the deck gets influence screwed, so probably not me as my losses today have been to power/influence screw that bad I've not seen cirso etc on deck but been pushed to get pteriax down in those games never mind TTPP.
