Hey guys, this is a deck I used to hit Masters. It combines a lot of my favorite aspects about Eternal/Magic into a pretty powerful package. The main aspects of this deck is that it's Mid-range, and tries its hardest to eek out as much card advantage as possible.
Why just Shadow? Simplicity goes a long way. No weird influence requirements, that and Tasbu and Incarnus immensely strong.
Some notes on card picks
Fenris Nightshade The most under-rated card. Typically, Rakano players will always remove it because thats just a Rakano player, but others will just leave him there, allowing you to use an abundant resource to gain card advantage. Very powerful and a huge reason why I win a lot of my games.
Dreamsnatcher For a long time I wasn't sure what other two drop to use, many people suggested
Blackhall Warleader Which sounded okay, but that card typically only sticks around a turn or two because it is absolutely terrifying. However, when you topdeck Warleader late game, its pretty disappointing, board states been built, and a 2/3 just isn't impactful. This card also combos with all of your discard, and does something we really need in this deck, which is life gain. Don't ever think his Ultimate wont trigger. With all the control decks going around, this guy will beat them at their own game if you play properly, and be a massive RKO at the same time.
Waylay The main reason I only have a 2 of for
Sabotage I originally didn't think much of this card when it was spoiled, but boy was I wrong. Probably the 2nd most powerful card in this deck. It allows you to get intel as well as respond perfectly to known deck types. You can completely declaw reanimator decks by taking their Big Vara. Azindel is scary sure, but Vara is a big part of why that deck thrashes people so hard. You DO have to be very careful with this card, as you can completely durdle with it and do nothing, but when it works, you may have well just ran them over with a bus as it allows you to also steal their biggest threat, and bring it into play under your control.
Incarnus, Makkar's Listener We use this card to generate card advantage and threat. This card is honestly a must I feel, as it begs an answer against smart players. This card allows you to smash most sites if not removed while generating a 2 for 1.
Vara, Vengeance-Seeker Good card. Reason shes in the market is because its a double edged sword. We need access to life gain, removal, and a threat, which she does in one handy slot.
Tasbu, the Forbidden This card is obscenely strong and one of the best threats against control decks. Casting him on a 1 or 2 creature board can really screw up the intended effect of a board wipe, leaving you oozing with card advantage. He's also a massive threat if left untouched.
Nullblade We only have a 3 of for Annihilate because we need to 1. Be able to respond to other graveyard decks. 2. Have removal that is also a threat. Annihilate is great, but theres a lot of awesome multi-color threats it cant kill, so we use Nullblade. Seriously debating trying to get a 4 of it in the deck as it hilariously slaps control decks around. Most control decks only run a few bits of attachment removal for some reason, meaning you can just keep hitting them with this.
Dizo's Office Our top end, and a stupidly powerful tool box that does everything we need. Generates threat, card advantage, removal, and a phenomenal threat at the end. And it gains us life! This is also why we run 4 of
Vara's Favor
---- Market ----
Stray into Shadow From my experience ,the 1 mana difference between this and Malediction isn't enough to make me want to run Malediction. The permanent stat reduction is just too strong. The extra -1 also helps.
Bloodlust You won't market for this every single game, but when you do, you'll often win the game because of it. Time decks hate him.
Burglarize The only relic removal Black has really. Shame its not good enough to main deck.
In Cold Blood Having removal in your market is ultra helpful. Having it be one of the single best color hosers against one of the strongest factions/colors in the game also helps since Direwolf has a habit of just giving Justice way too much for their color pie.
