Here is a decent deck for a new player starting out. It is intended to be a common card shell which can be upgraded as new cards are collected. I was experimenting with the deck today and I've had about a 60% win rate in casual and 15% win rate in ranked (Masters), which was surprising.
Basically the deck is trying to create a tempo advantage with cards that require spell usage to trigger.
Spire Spellsword,
Wurmstone, and
Pyre Elemental all need spells to be cast to activate their ability, so be sure not to use your cheap spells like
Seek Power and
Torch on a whim.
Hotblood Barbarian and
Workshop Tinker can also transform excess power/junk into cheap spells that work well with the deck.
Disjunction is very good here because it can be used to remove curses like permafrost from your creatures, and disrupt the opponent's deck by destroying relics and weapons, but it can also draw
Wurmstone from the void. And it counts as a spell, which works great with the rest of the deck.
Finally there is
Awakened Student, which is just a great common card, and a few interaction spells.
Here are some (relatively) strict upgrades to the deck:
-
Workshop Tinker ->
Auralian Merchant -- Merchants are basically a necessity right now. Auralian Merchant is particularly powerful, and a good card to craft first.
-
Spire Spellsword ->
Alessi, Combrei Archmage -- Alessi requires an additional time influence to cast but it is still strictly better because her effect is permanent.
-
Predator's Instinct ->
Xenan Initiation -- The +1/+1 effect is very relevant especially when using on Alessi.
-
Entrapment &
Downfall ->
Vanquish -- It is incredible how many units in the meta have 4 strength instead of 5, and the mana cost reduction is crucial.
-
Granite Waystone,
Amber Waystone,
Combrei Banner,
Praxis Banner,
Rakano Banner -> Seats and Crests of the same color. No need to use banners or waystones in the deck if other power cards are in your collection.
This deck is not a serious contender by any means, but it should be able to do well in pre-Masters Gauntlet with a few rarity upgrades, and it can steal some games in casual mode.
As more powerful cards are acquired, the Wurmstone strategy can be abandoned for a more conventional Alessi midrange style.
