My first attempt at an aggro style deck, although aggro control might be a better term. We want our units to hit the enemy, and we want to build value every time we turn something sideways. In order to do so, we must clear the way for our units to turn sideways, or ensure they live through doing so.
Win Condition and Core Combo
Navani, Warsinger +
Sower of Dissent
Navani's Warcry affects each weapon and unit in the deck, Sower of Dissent reduces the cost of said units and weapons per Warcry. With two Navani procs, nearly every unit and weapon in the deck now has +2/+2 and has had its cost either nullified, or halved. This also has the wonderful side-effect of turning our Merchants into absolute terrors, instead of just blockers on the field.
Let me show you its features.
Dual purpose is the theme for all of our supporting cards.
Vanquisher's Blade pumps our units, gets things out of the way.
Rujin's Choice fetches us whatever we need or helps punch through the opponent's blockers as 2 for 1 removal.
Display of Honor is our workhorse spell, it helps us punch through and get gain life, polymorph threats we can't just punch, or get us weapons back.
Hojan, Crownbreaker + combat trick is particularly powerful since we'll be protecting our units with our face, more often than not. Protecting your health is secondary to opening your opponent up, right until doing so would get you killed.
Beyond that,
Hunter's Harpoon and
Wisdom of the Elders helps draw us cards, typically a good thing.
Furnace Mage helps us kill attachments while also just being a decent body.
Svetya, Merciful Orene is a final finisher, and could probably be pulled out of the deck for something that advances the gameplan. In my experience, a late game 6/6 with Aegis and the promise of bigger threats to come typically yields a concession. At the very least she's good for holding down the market.
Potential Swaps or Additions
More
Seek Power, the deck needs consistent power to make multiple plays per turn, or to keep the units on the field.
Svetya, Merciful Orene, this card doesn't add much to the deck other than the future threat of things being worse for your opponent. As it stands, she's too expensive and the deck doesn't have enough ramp to really support getting her on the field.
Shogun's Scepter: Warcry stacks, meaning Navani's warcry would be +2/+2 your entire deck.
Svetya's Bravery Aegis at fast speed to protect units from spell removal for cheap.
Conclusion
This is the deck I'm currently grinding throne with, and has been pretty resilient thus far. Ultimately the deck is fun for those who enjoy aggro but still want to combo and build value.
If you've made it this far, thank you for reading, GLHF!
