Information

This is my first deck with Alessi, a card that I find quite interesting. It's also my first deck with Pledge matters, a strategy that I found too linear by itself, but with the addition of Alessi, I can back up the deck. The payoff for Pledge is obviously Glasshopper, card's really strong if you pledged T1. More payoff is Gunrunner, Quickdraw can matter and the weapon is useful. Then there's Silverwing Courier, this card is really strong outside of hard removal. Both Gunrunner and Courier are 4 ofs in the deck, as they have the biggest upside if you've pledged. I've added many Pledge units where I didn't identify a clear best card in the slot, but Imperial Loyalist stood out for me, since it can easily tutor for Alessi or other units if Glasshopper is out. The main way to trigger Renown (tutor) is Bubble Shield, a card that I like a lot. You essentially protect Imperial Loyalist and get an Alessi for your trouble. That's a 3 for 2.

The market is debatable, I really like Alchemist, Unmake and Stand Together, power is something I run in most markets since it essentially makes your curve so much smoother: it's as if you had 4 more power in the deck. This allows you to cut down actual power and add gas. I usually run 25 power and then up to 4 fetch cards such as Petition, Etchings, Calibrate, Favors and similar cards. The card I'm most on the fence about is Purify. It's good early game and not totally blank late game, but I consider adding a card with higher impact such as Grodov's Burden or Sword of Unity. I haven't decided yet. Market access comes from the strong Pearl Abbey Smuggler, a card that has great synergy with casting spells for Alessi and then I included 4 Time Etchings since it's a regular power draw if you can't access the market, it grows Alessi and Smuggler and it essentially gives you 8 market access cards in the late game. Whether or not it's good enough is debatable, too, as hitting TTTT can be difficult. It's the reason why there's 4 Time Symbols in the deck.

One interesting aspect is the incidental gain of armor. To potentially benefit from this, I added a couple of relic weapons, but even as life gain, it's a fine effect. There are two sites in the deck: Praxis Arcanum, which can give deadly to your Glasshoppers and makes all your stuff even cheaper (debatable inclusion, but I like playing with sites and if you can defend it, Talir is worth your trouble) and Gates of Hope, another card which can generate great value. Both sites are great if you can defend them and 3 spells each to grow your Alessis and Smugglers. There's some removal in the deck, greatly diversified and serviceable between Torch, Sear, Vanquish, Pristine Light and the relic weapons. There's a single spellcraft weapon, Sword of Unity, which is great in any midrange strategy and could be in the market, as I've pointed out already. Phew, that about covers my thoughts on the deck, I hope you enjoy my ideas and find some inspiration. Have a good day.
