Update: Still wins games consistently 4/27/19
End of Days is one of the ultimate work-around cards in my opinion, but I have grown to love it. It enables some really crazy stuff and surprises your opponents to no end (when was the last time you saw this card played?)
Do you love Nictotraxian? He's great for shuffling in the Market as well as surprising you (sometimes) with just the perfect card to win.
Do you love your Mystic Ascendant drawing you 5 cards the turn after you play it? This has happened a bunch.
Do you love a 28/28 Serene Meditant? Done with two of them at once[img][/img]
These are just a few of the fun things that can happen in this deck, but now let me talk about how to pilot it.
1. Know is what deck you are playing against - the better you know it, the better you'll do. As with some of my previous decks, there's a lot in your toolkit, and a bunch of random stuff that can appear (hello, cargo and nicto). The better you are at making the best out of your luck, the better you will do.
2. Research Assistant + End of Days is your combo - use this to set up crazy plays with Mystic Ascendant and Serene Meditant. Your first End of Days is the only one that really matters and if at all possible you should play it tributed. After that, the 2nd one still gets some card draw, but the rest should just be fed to the market. Research Assistant should not be played unless you can use him either that turn or the turn after as he is your only way to activate tribute before attacking.
3. Other than looking for the influence to play your hand, the Kerendon colors are you best friends (hence the cargos) These will help you play your displays and get your 2nd Justice influence for Serene Meditant or the 2nd Shadow for Xenan Temple. Why not seek power instead of cargo? I suppose you could, but the contraband is actually useful late game and you don't need to find fire or primal as often.
4. Your Displays are versatile. This goes back to knowing the enemy deck. With Display of Knowledge you will usually use it to find an Eternity Core (though Moondial is good for the moondial and future card draw), but it it good against midrange decks for its removal. The +2 quickdraw only comes up usually if you need the extra damage to win (very rare). Display of Vision is usually used to fetch power, but against aggro decks it can wipe the board. Against control decks you often want to save them later to get rid of Martyr's Chains, Pit of Lenekta, and Temporal Distortion etc. Getting rid of attachments fast can also lead to mistaken attacks by your opponents as well.
5. You have 8 merchants - Nicto shuffling is good. Otherwise, Temple is my usual go-to if I'm not being threatened and have the influence, but play smart. Naturally, Pit of Lenekta is a great finisher. Haven't gotten a tributed End of Days with it out, but that's a goal of mine. ***Update: Due to even more Aggro being around, switch it to 1 Nicto in the Market (can still be shuffled a bunch) and 4 Saviour of the Meek for the early game extra life which can really come in handy. Will often put SoM in the market where it cannot be fetched again. Still hoping for the Combrei Smuggler.
I'm note sure anyone is more surprised that me that this deck is working on a consistent basis, but it is.
That being said, it should come as no surprise that the consistency came when I switched to a black market and brought the merchant count up to 8.
Good luck with the deck if you try it. I've been having a blast more than anything. Please feel free to offer suggestions. Have fun!
Edit - Removed Memento Mori - influence consistent without it - and added moondial for card draw.
- Removed Disassociate - can be useful, but by far the card I fetch the least from the market. Trying out Great Parliament in that spot.
- Removed Great Parliament and put in Nictotraxian
Because I lost every game I played. Cool idea though.
