I heard a lot of people say Feln is dead. Being one of my favourite archtypes, i thought i'd give it a whirl again and was pleasantly surprised with how consistent it is.
The ShiftstonedEternal Power Calculator is a deck-building tool that visualizes your odds of drawing enough Influence and Power based specifically on the cards found in your deck.
I dropped Rindras for Cull the deck since most feln decks are way too reactive instead of taking the initiative yourself. Cull the deck helps transition you into mid game instead of having a Rindra's in hand sat waiting to kill a heart of the vault on turn 6.
Suffocate is an okay card but didn't fit the playstyle i was going for, i want to hit the mid game consistently and play the threats this deck has. Champion/Feast caller are mvp.
A little late to the party here, but just wa ted to take a second to give props to this list. I ran almost the exact list in the twirch prime event, had a 9-1 run. Totally bananas. 2nd run was 6-3, and sadly the 3rd run was 2-3, but that was still good enough for top 100.
What I like about this list is how consistent it is. Straight to business, doing what feln does best. No messing around with random copies of rain of frogs, setbacks, etc. Just the best removal, the best filtering and card draw, and the best creatures.
My changes were -1 cull the deck +1 dark return. I feel like champion of cunning is the entire reason to play this deck, it's so powerful and hard to deal with, I like having access to at least 2 copies of dark return.
I also cut 1 channel the tempest for an extra power. Personally I don't feel like feln needs 4, and it can be pretty clunky in this already power-hungry deck.
And finally I cut Azindel's Gift for Touch of the Umbren. Gift is bad for do many reasons. Doesn't interact with the board, face aegis, most markets have relic hate, etc. Even the matchups where it should be good (other control decks, the mirror) they can often just top deck a big threat and kill you anyways. Touch of the umbren just wins games on the spot. I've even won mirror matches bringing it in to steal something, just a huge 2 for 1, and it even gives charge to the unit you stole (even though it's not written) so huge tempo swing when you take a giant BSH that they're sitting safely behind. I had one game where my opponent merchanted for a Scourge of Frosthome, only to learn I had already preemptively grabbed Touch from my market! Talk about living the dream!
Damn, that's a tough choice. I do think Harbinger is the better card but i prefer Jotun myself. Goes in more decks. You could try the Echo Dragon too instead of Jotun. Nice threat.
I tried many decks combination, arch type but I still get back to this feln types of decks which made a success to me. it also brought me gold to master last month.
I can attest, this deck is excellent. I know it's a short sample size but I easily climbed from Diamond 3 to Diamond 2 with only 1 loss. Deck is very consistent, interactive, and fun to pilot. Thank you HSgroot for sharing the list. :)
Good old fashioned feln control is nice, but have you janked with a BSH in the market and a Kyrex Coach Driver on the board? Consistent BSH with Deadly my man. It's like getting Ironthorn's Ultimate except on 6 instead of 134125.
I've thought about it, with the yeti that pings for 3 across the board too but haven't actually threw anything together just yet haha. I imagine it's super fun though!
I felt like the old kind of feln decks were stuck still playing 2/3 copies of icb in the main deck and to me it was really slow and did nothing to help you get through the early game in which feln struggles.
I found that one icb is enough to completely shut down a deck it's aimed towards as well. Main targets being Icaria/Tavrod/Makto. Only argument i could think of to main another would be to shut people off from the market but Gift does a pretty good job of this too.
Just my take on it anyway, i think the deck needs to be more focused on getting past the early since mid to late is where the deck shines.
I guess the meta is less hostile then since yeah you DON'T want to actually run that many copies of ICB like you said it doesn't do much but permafrost was really bad just a week ago pre accelerated evolution nerf. The fact that your list runs 4 of them is a really good sign. I totally agree with you. What kind of decks were you facing on your climb? I was seeing very few decks with endurance units today oddly. Not sure what happened. Am taking this on a spin now after cheesing my way into Masters with Rakano Answer the Call.
I also like how many powers this list runs. Feln Control shouldn't be running 25 base powers.
Honestly all sorts. I found that a lot of people were running Zenatons feln list with the time splash and i think my record was about 8-0 vs that list. Fair bit of aggro, few people playing ManuS list of tps with the cleavers.
I imagine it is quite hard to play against since it's so controlling, haha. I feel like if you can pilot the early game well enough then it can beat pretty much any match up. Can't stress enough just how good Jotun is in the meta right now

Anyways thanks again for the list, it rules
Your market looks solid AF though and actually a lot better than most I've had with the blue merchant. Will definitely give this a go.
