Knighthawk9 mentioned a deck like this on reddit so I'm sharing what I've been playing.
This is a quasi control deck that shines when
Mask of Torment gets rolling and you are sitting at 8 or 11 power. The reason this deck shines at high power is that the small units you play to survive until late in the game all tend to have a power sink for top decking late.
Temple Scribe,
Ayan, the Abductor,
Knight-Chancellor Siraf, and
Mask of Torment active ability. Generally I want to get to 8 power to start getting extra value from
Knight-Chancellor Siraf and
Ayan, the Abductor.
They ways you survive until you get high power is by having six sweepers (four
Harsh Rule and two
End of the Story). The
Slay and
Desert Marshal are there for spot removal or problem children.
Ayan, the Abductor also acts like quasi removal vs aggro, as well as
Vara, Vengeance-Seeker who also wipes Aegis in preparation for board wipes.
I only use 1
Azindel, Revealed in the market because I don't want it to sit dead in my hand for too long, and it's a prime target for
Dark Return if I don't have to use it earlier. Other market options include a
Combrei Banner because I sometimes find myself needing a justice influence for a board wipe.
Dark Return is really strong and I'd love to find room for a 4th. It can help vs faster decks or bring back a win condition.
Vital Arcana is probably my least favorite card and would be the first to be chopped, although it really helps vs. control matchups. While the deck is weak on card draw it has decent power sinks so you'll often topdeck something usable.
---Matchups---
vs. Aggro aggressively trade smaller units and survive until board wipe.
Combrei Banner is a good market choice to ensure you get your board wipe on time.
vs. Midrange conservatively match threats and bait removal until a wipe. Then outvalue/tempo them with activations. Get a
Mask of Torment from the market unless you need relic hate.
vs. Control aggressively play threats early to try to bait out removal and whittle away the life total. Gain card advantage through activations.
Moondial is usually the best market option.
It's not a fast deck, and I doubt it's top tier but it's fun. I think it's worse with defiance based on how reliant it is on
Mask of Torment.
