Before getting into my thoughts on the deck, here’s how the combo works:
You need
Aymar, Dark Summoner,
Static Discharge, and either
Journey Guide or
Valley Spring in play, with
Deathless Lurker in hand.
Because of
Aymar, Dark Summoner, whenever you play
Deathless Lurker, the opponent plays an
Affliction on it, causing it to die. This triggers
Static Discharge.
With
Journey Guide or
Valley Spring in play, the newly created
Deathless Lurker costs 0, allowing you to replay it and all of its copies for free.
The only notable card choice is
Pause for Reflection. It can buy you a few turns against aggressive matchups and, most importantly, it hits each of the combo pieces excluding
Valley Spring, so it works great as a protection spell.
Tight-Lipped just works well with the way I play deck, I like to keep most of the combo in hand until I have all the pieces, so hand removal really hurts. The other alternative to this is having a deck with enough access to the void where that is not a problem, also maybe a bit of self mill.
Eremot's Machinations is a card i'm heavily considering, it can with some luck bring basically the entire combo out of the graveyard, it would just require either
Deathless Lurker or
Aymar, Dark Summoner to be discounted by
Journey Guide, which could be easily arranged if they were brought out of the market. Although, this would not start the combo I don't think, maybe if it brings them back in order and
Aymar, Dark Summoner is the two cost it would work, but I haven't tested it yet so i'm not sure
If you are insanely lucky, the combo could be done turn three:
T1: Play
Journey Guide
T2: Topdeck and play
Aymar, Dark Summoner
T3: Play
Static Discharge and a topdecked
Deathless Lurker, go off.
This will never happen, but it’s fun to think about (
Star Charts could help but you would need change the power base to reliably have undepleted power with all your colors on the first three turns and this is such a low chance its really not worth it).
As I mentioned before, this deck could probably benefit from a market. It could also slow the combo down, which is my main concern with adding one right now. Any suggestions on what combo pieces (if any) should go in the market and what market cards to run are welcome.
I am also not sure if this is the right shell. I opted for a Xenan shell with a Primal splash but it could easily be a more Feln list with a self mill plan and good void access idk. The search package might need work it is four combo pieces you need to find. I'm still early in the development process for this deck so i'll definitely be back with any findings or changes.
Of the combos I’ve played, I’d rank them:
1.
Executioner (either
Kanya, Ironthorn Envoy or
Conclave Siege)
2.
Tome of Horrors/
Kindo Shadowstep
3.
Street Gang/
Anointer of the Faithful
This is excluding
Genetrix Irel IV/
Rewind and
Overloader, because I have not recently played an updated list in the case of
Overloader, and
Rewind combo doesn't feel too much like a combo to me (its a late game finisher a ramp deck has access to in Combrei). I also forgot
Avatar of Winds/
Mirror Image but I also haven't played it enough or found a build that works well.
This one sits between 2 and 3, probably closer to 3 right now, but I think it has real potential. I would love to see if anyone can make this deck good. It already feels playable and a bit less clunky than the
Street Gang/
Anointer of the Faithful combo. Any feedback or card suggestions are welcome. I hope you have fun brewing with it.
P.S. There is currently a bug where
Affliction sometimes isn’t played. It’s happened twice so far, I’m not sure why (possibly connection?).
Also, I consider this a combo deck (where every card in the deck is part of the combo):

With the new discard promos, should we revisit kindo?
