Celebration is one of the more straightforward promo cards to be released in the last year. That doesn't mean it slots just anywhere; not a lot of decks are willing to pay N+1 for a random unit. The theme deck DWD gave us was a big spells list that also featured
Gleeful Firebrand, which is a great start, but missed out on some inclusions because the best cards for that deck are too rare. My first instinct was to simply improve that list with things like
Volatility,
Brenn, Chronicler of Ages, and other big spell payoffs. Then I had a mind-blown moment: this card makes a random unit.
Random units probably aren't going to be in your deck.
See where I'm going with this? We can use the promo to double dip, pay off for
Gleeful Firebrand AND Archmagister's Portal!
Spells Suite
Gleeful Firebrand - Not including the promo, there are six spells in the main deck and five in the market that can trigger the Firebrand.
Brenn, Chronicler of Ages - There are 25 spells in the deck, and we're dabbling in Plunder.
Celebration - So versatile. Play as is to trigger the Portal and Brenn, or go big to get a good unit. As a special "oh shit" option, amplify to 12 for
Spirit of Resistance. This play saved my neck against a
Restrained Action deck during testing.
Calibrate,
Nahid's Distillation - Good fixing and drawing options.
Victor's Feast - The giant is surprisingly reliable, and opens up shenanigans with our market cards.
Wrath of Caiphus - Another versatile pick. Late-game gas or early-game fixing.
Portal-goers
Desert Alchemist - Ambush and plunder. Not likely to survive a block, but nice if it does.
Auralian Supplier - Supplements card drawing somewhat and keeps us aggressive.
Dawnwalker - Keeps coming back, keeps getting bigger.
Milos, Rebel Bomber - A pain in the neck even without the portal.
Criva, the Crimson Scythe - Shades of
Recurring Nightmare, but with the bonus of a big sheep each turn.
Jekk, Mercenary Hunter - Removal on a stick. Very nice.
Substitute whatever other cards you like in the rest of the slots. I probably went too big, but it works somehow.
Happy Eternalversary, everyone!
