Currently 11-2 with this deck, playing on the Master's ladder in ranked, against different kinds of decks.
This is a kind of a ramp deck in the sense that, if you get to 4+ power and the board/our life total is in an ok shape, we are in a very good spot to win the game. And that is because most of our cards drawn after we have that much power is pure gas or card draw to get more gas going on.
To help us get there, we use cards like:
-
Trail Maker - the guy who ramps us up and fixes our influence requirements.
-
Lightning Storm - this card is here so we can fight off against go wide aggro decks in general and survive until the mid-game. Another potential use for the card is comboing it with a Killer Dawnwalker to kill a bigger unit, along with other small units on the enemy board. The card does anti-sinergize with our Friendly Wisps and Trail Makers so be mindful about that when using it.
-
False Prince - yet another great anti-aggro tool and a pretty good, undercosted midrange unit. It dies a poor death to Vara's Favor or Torch but outside of that, most other spells that will kill it are profit for us. Against control, if they waste removal like Vanquish or Slay on it, it's great, cause our other threats will be safer to come down at later turns. Against aggro, the 5/5 body does a great job at keeping their units at bay for a while, until our bigger guys come around to halt their aggression completely. And it calls back our Dawnwalkers, which is a nice plus.
The game plan is basically control the board early, try to keep it clean with Lightning Storms and Killer Dawnwalkers, play our power or ramp with Trail Makers and then start to overwhelm our opponents with threat after threat after threat. If they try to stop us with units, Carnosaur eats them. If we run out of threats, we draw cards and start it all over again. It's a pretty fun deck for those who enjoy midrange strategies and it does feel quite strong!
Cards being considered:
Worldbearer Behemoth x2 - I don't have 4 yet in the deck because I only own two. But they do feel great when I get to play them! Not sure though what I would cut for 2 more copies, maybe Cirso, although he also feels great in some scenarios. For now the deck feels alright to me with this split of 2 Behemoths - 2 Cirsos.
Daring Pioneer - While False Prince is a great card in the deck, it has poor synergy with Xenan Initiation and it feels bad when you have one in hand and just him out and kinda needing the killer effect. He'll become a killer frog if you use it on him so, don't try it ! I'm considering making a split of 2 and 2 between Daring Pioneer and False Prince to see how that goes. The problem with not running Princes is that you'll have less ways of calling Dawnwalkers back though and that is bad. The upside of Pioneer though is that she might be very good against decks that run Harsh Rule for example, locking down the board or preventing a powerful spell from the opponent to go off. I'm gonna try that out soon and edit the deck if I feel she's worth running here.
Mystic Ascendant - The combo between Behemoth and Ascendant is a tempting thing to try out. Attacking while drawing cards and making yet another threat on the board has to feel great ! That said, I don't own any copy of Mystic Ascendant yet as of now. I should be crafting one soon though to try and I plan on replacing one of the Carnosaurs for it.
Hope you'll enjoy the deck and have fun playing it. Comments, suggestions, ideas and feedback are all welcome and appreciated!
