This deck has been working very well for me both with and without the obvious upgrades from Defiance both before and after Defiance. I did not create the original, it's on warcry somewhere.

Hojan, Crownbreaker and Red Canyon Smuggler are obvious improvements over Crownwatch Paladin and Ixtun Merchant. Other than The Shugo Standard, nothing was in my market here that was in my maindeck due to budget, anyway.

I only play 3 copies of the units without two battle skills other than the Red Canyon Smuggler and Hojan, Crownbreaker..

Is Defiance an upgrade over Finest Hour? What other relatively cheap additions, like a different legendary in the market, etc. should I consider?
