This is the list I have used to get to masters this season. Currently ranked 56, but will probably fall quickly as more players reach masters.
The only slightly poor match up I found is FJP with Icaria and Shelterwing Rider due to the card disadvantage of dealing with them and the fact that they don't die to an Auric Runehammer.
The cards that can feel a little awkward from time to time are Annihilate and Devastating Setback.
I really enjoy playing this deck and will try and update the list as I make changes.
As requested, here are a couple strategy tips, but I do not think this list is that hard to pilot.
First of all, the cute interactions in the deck:
Statuary Maiden is out only (pseudo)silence effect. Against other Makto decks it is important to keep the maiden in hand until the kill on Makto is secured! The maiden has one other purpose though. The Cudgels she creates are really powerful on Stonepowder Alchemist and Whirling Duo due to their lifesteal battle skill.
Due to not being in blue, Wanted Poster is the best card draw option. Besides from draw cards through removal spells there are two other uses to keep in mind. It can be used to pop aegis. This is usually not very interesting but when facing a lethal Icaria attack and the only cards in hand are Wanted Poster and Slay it is important to remember. A more interesting interaction is when Wanted Poster is triggers with Harsh Rule. If we control a Makto and we Wanted Poster an opposing unit and then cast Harsh Rule, Makto will get shuffled into the top 10 before the cards are drawn from Wanted Poster! It is about a 20% chance to get Makto back into play right away. And if he was not in the top 2, he is at least closer to the top. Additionally, don't play you scout lands as the first thing on you turn in the mid to late game. Sometimes Makto will go to the top 10 during the turn and then it is much better to scout the top card away (if it isn't Makto of cause). Quarry can do the same trick.
Depending on the Match-up the game strategy can differ:
Against Aggro: I think aggro is the easiest match up to play, but also the most boring. Priorities: #1: Keep life total high, #2 Remove opponents board, #3 Develop own board. When scouting, do not get tempted by Icaria. She is strong but her relative value to other units is definitely not worth 7 mana in this match-up.
Against Mid-range: Play the control game, but here it is fine (some times important) to be a little greedy and plan for Icaria and Makto. In this match-up, if possible, try and get you opponent to use removal spells on Stonepowder Alchemist and Whirling Duo. Every removal spell wasted on the 3-drops will not be used against Makto or Icaria.
Againt Control: This match-up is a little tricky because the play style can be optimized depending on the opponents win-condition. If the opponent are running a lot of Aegis units like Icaria and Shelterwing Rider, try and play a little more aggressive. In a long game it can be hard to avoid being grinded out and losing to card advantage.
If the opponent tries to win with Channel the Tempest, either play the game aggressive or use Stonepowder Alchemist and Whirling Duo with the Cludgels from Statuary Maiden to keep the life total high.
If the opponent is a "simple" control deck with no funny business that just tries to get the game to go long, it is important to get the opponent to use removal on the 3-drops. Just play a unit, attack for a couple of turn to check for removal. If you are convinced that the opponent is are low on removal, commit some more units to speed up the kill. Still, it is almost always a bad idea to let go of all the units, just in case a Harsh Rule is top-decked.
That got way longer then I had in mind. I think most of these strategies and ideas are obvious to most of you, but if you a couple of these trick are useful to you, it was worth writhing this.
As always, feel free to comment and ask questions. They are greatly appreciated.
Can you please add few words on best strategies with this deck ?
