Oni Expedition (FoX)

Expedition Deck By

Cost Curve

Alright, here are my hot takes.

Oni can be played 3 ways: aggro, mid, or weapon. As with all deck types your success is determined by your ability to maintain focus on the core structure of the deck. Meaning pick one. I have chosen to go with aggro in Expedition for 4 reasons.

1. Strong selection of low-cost relevant units
2. Fair unit-based tricks/support spells
3. Poor choice of weapons
4. Poor tribal ramp for midrange

A 'go-wide' strategy generally favors all Oni builds and with Expedition seems to be the right choice. In addition, due to poor self protection and lackluster weapon choices, the weapon strategy tends to result in more 2-1 losses than big gains. Don't get me wrong, there are some good weapons, but as a synergistic package I find clogging the board and using tricks works better. And I have beaten weapon Oni decks with my aggro Oni deck; the weapons simply aren't big enough and the 2-1 trade with no card generator is murder.

I've gone 13-2 with this deck. Great build, fun to play

Hey I'm running a similar deck and ran it all the way to Rank 21 in Expedition right now. Akko is one of the filthiest legendaries I've ever seen. I've found 4 Conflagrates are a must, Kaleb's Persuader is also very strong (triggers Kyojun and Mastery effects with the 2 damage to face before attacks resolve), and I'm not running any non-Oni units to keep the synergy pure. I also cut Draw Strength after initially running 4, it was just too lackluster in this deck. You also might want to think about Kemmo, the Bladebreakers come in clutch many games. I also tried running the site but it's such garbage I cut it even from the market. Rally in the market is also a must, it wins so many games! I also like Longbarrel as a singleton/market card, the overwhelm on Smuggler has won many a game.

Great feedback and congrats on your rank!

Hey thanks, I'm not sure how hard the competition is yet though. I've also been trying Varret in the deck, because well, everyone else is using him lol it feels like you're at a disadvantage if you don't have him.

Surprised you cut Quartermaster from the deck. When Jishu and Quartermaster get going it's just disgusting. I've swapped Shiv for it in my build.
jrockMTG Eternal Version: 1.47
Quartermaster is a great pick I’m trying out Cozin.
scrabbledude Eternal Version: 1.47
Cozin has been excellent for me as well. I run 0x Shiv, 4x Cozin, and 4x Quartermaster.
