Basically just my gauntlet tweaks for the Xenan Site deck(s) that have been floating around. It's incredibly consistent for getting to 6 wins, but I can't quite figure out how to give it that last push to make it good against bosses too.
Here's a
link to my reddit thread about it / me asking for help tweaking it.
- Your sites are all great value cards obviously but they're unnecessary and too slow for gauntlet. I don't see you needing the value provided at all.
- Devastating setback should probably be cut. It's slow and doesn't have a huge payoff in gauntlet. Your deck is already resilient to 1/1 dorks. You get 3 for 1s on your Time units.
- Banish is unnecessary vs gauntlet decks and I would cut down on them at the very least
- You should be playing Teacher of Humility
- Death strike is unnecessary and slow. It's nice to be able to have instant removal but 4x annihilate plus the suffocates are enough. Vara's choice in the market is also good for rare occasional emergencies.
If you have any questions or want to discuss this further then please feel free to add me ingame @ Aesthetic+3507 or contact me on discord in the Eternal server @ Aesthetic
Hope this helps
- Sites are great for ladder, but I've come to realize their value isn't generally needed in gauntlet / is too slow. I'm thinking just going back to straight Behemoth / Mystic.
- I've swapped to the xenan smugger to give myself access to the awesome shadow market. Devastating Setback and my xenan and dizo sites have been relegated to there. Though on second thought it might be best to get Setback out of my market too.
- I don't quite agree about Banish vs Annihilate (which is basically what you're suggesting?). A lot of AI decks are reliant on buffing up low power minions with weapons and such, and a they're also no stranger to multifaction units. It also allows me to take out the occasional Xenan Obelisk. It's almost always useful in my hand. The 3 power is kind of a bummer at times; so I won't dismiss your point out of hand.
- I've come to dislike Teacher for gauntlet. Most AI decks aren't big on card draw, and if you draw it past turn 3 it's basically a dead draw. I'm reconsidering Temple Scribe for the slot as a chump blocking cantrip, or maybe just the deadly xenan wasp.
- I suppose Death strike is more a personal preference. It covers huge minions and lets me pull off tricks that annihilate and banish won't. You're very likely correct about nixing it though.
For the most part I've messed around with various options and I'm just ending up with a generic Xenan deck that closely matches my Set 4 deck. So I think I'll just leave it for a while. All the same, I really appreciate the help. I'll get back to this someday.
Re Teacher: Opp isn't often affected too much by the weights to be honest but teacher is a great body and helps immensely vs matchups like Strength in Numbers, Clan warriors, Skycrag aggro etc.
Re Deathstrike: Yeah, I really just don't see holding up 4 power for opp's turn to bait a 2 for 1 as efficient, especially in gauntlet. Gauntlet is very straight forward when playing Time. Just slam fatties on curve and most of the time the value will come. Maybe I just enjoy a faster game and my advice was tailored to making the grinds more time efficient as well. I'll upload my Time gauntlet deck and you can take a look at it if you want. I truthfully very rarely lose with it and it's expensive in cards but it's by far the best gauntlet deck I've played. I'm sure there are better ones out there that can abuse the AI etc. but Time is very straight forward and consistently solid for me.
Thanks for taking the time to explain your choices.
