So, another attempt at reviving an oldie but goody--Combrei Alessi. Definitely a rough draft, and of course, a midrange deck without a Cylix--especially one as spell-reliant as the Alessi archetype--is certainly at a disadvantage in the current day and age, but just wanted to provide a framework for a deck that's felt fairly competitive using some new updates.
The interesting part about this latest iteration is that you have 8 market access spells, all of which can fetch combrei smuggler that, like Alessi, also grows with spells. The two copies of the find the way aren't there to be cast (unless absolutely necessary) so much as to provide raw cardboard. Crescendo providing flying to a large grounded unit is no joke, and with pause for reflection and an onslaught pristine light, you can do the usual redraw a killer or aegis unit to recharge the ability.
The deck is definitely a rough draft, with primary questions being how much to devote to the Alessi package (full set of killer and pause for reflection? How many press-gangs now that it's been reverted back to its original 5 cost?), and if a couple of etchings should be winchest merchant, or if winchest merchant should also be in the market as well for more market juggling shenanigans the way Nrausch played 3+1 ixtun merchant to be able to chain market access back in the set 4 days.
However, the impact of the new cards is *definitely* noticeable. A quick silverblade intrusion is a very high-impact play against anything but the hardest of aggro (they usually dump their hand too quickly for the valk to be played, though the double barrier might be good enough), enter the monastery is absolutely fantastic, and I've actually hit the ultimate on Diana with aegis in games before (people generally tend to die from that).
In any case, this isn't a tier 1 deck yet just by virtue of being a grindy midrange deck without a Cylix (DWD, pls), but for those that like this playstyle, this is something to consider. Enjoy.
