The deck I played in the Caravans Expedition event. This list went 17-6 in the end but I think with better piloting it could have hit 20 wins at minimum.
Deck philosophy:
I expected a lot of durdle-y site-focused slowmid/control decks like FTP and Icaria Blue, since
Garden of Omens has been heavily played at time of writing and the last Expedition event was won by a big fat Elysian mid deck. The goal of this deck was to shoot for a strong opening, make it tough for our opponent to block our units, show no fear in the face of board wipes, and heavily punish slow uninteractive play without compromising on aggro matches (since I expected some people to play mono-fire or rakaggro). I also expected few-to-no relics to be played given how often Gardens and
Saber-Tooth Prideleader showed up on non-event Expedition.
The reality:
even-monot-expedition-caravans-1st-place was a surprisingly powerful deck that threw a few wrenches in my plan and was my worst matchup (0W-2L), though I think with a better pilot and/or a more aggressive curve this deck would have had better success in the matchup - I wasted too much time on removing units instead of trying to win before
Xenan Obelisk came down and/or targeting
Evenhanded Golem with
Royal Decree. I also had a tougher time versus Icaria Ixtun (3W-2L) than expected - one loss was due to a power flood and one was due to a pair of missplays on my part. The other losses came from a random Combrei Midrange deck that I drew literally 0 counters for, and a cookie cutter Stonescar aggro/mid deck that came down to the wire but I lost since I took a 50/50 chance that ended badly for me :|
On the whole this list did better than expected and I'm pretty happy to have secured a spot in the top 100 of this event with my own brew; 56th overall is a lot better than I expected to do!
