I guess bolt cost less than Channel, but doesn't this seem to simply replace Channel the Tempest with Static Bolt, but with a bit more monkeying around?

Not saying that as an insult, I'm just curious if this started from a different point, or you were working towards this gold from scratch?

Well, my goal was to build something from scratch playing Crystalline Chalice and using Static Bolt as the win condition (I had been fooling around with carpet shuffle). That being said, while Channel the Tempest is probably better as a win-condition, there are a few advantages to playing Static Bolt:

1. The combo setup only requires 6 or 7 maximum power (depending on whether you do it with Excavate or Second Sight)
2. Static Bolt is harder to shut down with aegis
3. You can use Static Bolt for removal early in the game, especially against aggressive decks
4. Elysian Trailblazer has other good echo hits in the deck
5. You draw so many cards that getting the combo is not difficult anyway
