Hey! I've been playing this deck on ladder for around a week now after opening
Crownwatch Quartermaster and realizing it'd actually be pretty solid with AOE buff effects such as
Stand Together and
Xenan Obelisk. This deck got me from Diamond III to Masters last season, with a very high winstreak up until my last few qualifying games. So far in October it's had the same great results, so I figured I should make a post about it.
So first off, let me talk about Quartermaster's inclusion. As I've already mentioned, it works very well with Obelisk, Stand Together, and Sword of Unity, but unlike similar cards such as
Humbug Swarm, it has very decent stats on its own. With all the aegis spam in Combrei, you can usually keep it around to get off the ability late game (which ends up closing out most games since you can put it on elusive overwhelm cards or fliers). Even without the aegis, forcing the opponent to waste their removal on a 2/4 token unit is pretty slow for them. Essentially it's just a better Humbug Swarm in this deck with a power sink ability kinda like Siraf.
Amilli, Cloudmarshal is another card that I feel Valkyrie Tokens has over other token decks. Being able to attack with a 4/8 flier while creating infinite chump blockers or tokens for AoE buffs means you can pretty much always pressure the opponent with it. The 4/8 flying body is also just a great target for Sword of Unity because it's very hard to kill without hard removal.
The rest of the deck is fairly standard, but I would like to mention that
Sword of Unity and
Stand Together are very huge in a token deck such as this, so I feel it's a big reason to play Combrei instead of Praxis or Elysian. Currently I've done extremely well against both Combrei Aggro and Praxis Tokens.
This deck feels very strong to me and I hope you all enjoy playing it. As this is a pretty new archetype, I'd be happy to hear how you guys do or any suggestions you might have!

Into the Shadows new card inclusion:
Xulta Convoy has been excellent VS control! Valkyrie Tokens usually has no win condition against removal pile/control unless it draws aegis spam (granted, that's pretty likely). Xulta Convoy gives you a very hard to answer 4 drop instead of
Marisen's Disciple. The endurance makes them great Sword of Unity targets and synergizes with
Telut, Queen's Hand.
Telut, Queen's Hand may seem counterintuitive to the decks game plan, but I've found that while this is a token deck, there are a lot of late game board states where you only want to attack with one or two units. The -1 attack to enemies, +3/+3 weapon, and ramp do a lot. Some cards that like being buffed or are fine attacking by themselves:
Sword of Unity - The extra stats on a lifesteal/overwhelm unit are amazing and make it hard for the opponent to win in time.
Amilli, Cloudmarshal - Amilli will often be attacking no matter the board state since he creates more tokens/chump blockers anyway. The buff is very good with his extraordinary health stat.
Icaria, Valkyrie Captain or
Xulta Convoy - Endurance lets you use the buff for blocking, so it increases it's effectiveness greatly.
Edit: I just got back to masters with this deck (rank 48) and I have to say that Telut is continuing to put in a lot of work. Would definitely recommend including him, so I updated the list accordingly.
There were no bad match ups, only the occasional power screw or times when the opponent ramps too fast.
I didn't track all of my games but from my last 20 matches deck has a 15/5 record, which sounds about right.
Great deck! Thanks Mail!
What are your thoughts on Xulta Convoy? I feel like the aegis may be more useful than the options given by Marisen's Disciple in this removal-heavy meta.
edit: I forgot that it also has endurance, which makes it a much better Sword of Unity target, as well as Telut if he ends up staying. Also, convoy just won me a game vs TJP Control where I drew none of my aegis spam, so that's definitely a lot of points in it's favor. They just couldn't deal with two aegis units that early and ended up having to waste both their scorpion wasps and going down to 1 card/8 health.
btw nice deck!
