This deck's basic cards are
Jishu, the Burning Brush and
Oni Quartermaster and lots of Oni to work their combination with. I have a deck in mind with
Shogun of the Wastes as finisher. Its supposed to be a budget deck with only one Gold card. So as a work in progress i will release versions of the deck stuffing it with more expensive cards.
So what do you need?
This is the very first and cheapest budget version. It only consists of the basic cards
Jishu, the Burning Brush,
Oni Quartermaster and common cards.
Whats the Idea of the deck?
Have both basic cards up and spamm onis. For every oni you play you will draw one or two cards. This will spamm a lot of units with Overwhelm and good damage. Once you get it rolling it cant really be stopped.
Whats in there?
Oni, Oni that play weapons, weapons, Oni with Quickshot, and card draw.
Whats my winning condition?
There is basically two options to win:
-Get strong cards faster than your opponent and just beat him up
-As long as you cant make a good attack just save your units. They will have overwhelm and enough damage to win in one or two all out attacks.
The most important cards here are:
Oni that interact with weapons and thus let you play cards.
Fireheart Recruit has Quickshot and lets you attack even when the enemy board is full.
Ornate Katana lets you draw cards, which helps you get your important basic cards.
Heavy Axe is really just a cheap weapon that makes your units strong and lets you draw a card with Quartermaster.
The rest of the cards are more or less optional. Especially with the 1-cost-cards it doesn't really matter what you take or leave.
In the sideboard i added some options.
Heist lets you draw more cards.
Finest Hour Wins battles, especially early and keeps your basic cards alive against damage/spell damage.
I think
Unmoored Valkyrie can be strong for being a flyer with lifesteal.
First card to kick out would be
Oni Patrol
If you want to include higher cost cards, kick Oni Stalward
But really, just take any of the cards you like. I think Warcry is not so strong, because you prefer keeping your units save and making them big using weapons. So while you are not attacking because the enemy has one unit that will make your Warcry useless.
Generally your goal is to get a
Jishu, the Burning Brush down first, so your units to get Overwhelm. Then strengthen them with weapons and draw infinite cards from
Oni Quartermaster.
Be careful of how many of them you play. You don't want more of three of your basic cards in total on your board (unless its the same). Lets say you have two Quartermaster and two Jishu. Play an Oni and draw four cards. Your hand will just explode.
Only play a second of any of those if your hand is more or less empty so you can puffer those cards you draw.
If your hands are full its even better to keep copies of those basic cards in your hand in case your opponent destroys one of them.
Usually playing Jishu first, then the rest is the best to go. If you get Quartermaster first, use card draws to search for Jishu faster. Keep your units safe until its safe for you to attack, or very worth it. Always keep your key cards as safe as possible. Never attack with Jishu or Quartermaster unless you have a second copy or its safe and the enemy has zero power. Same goes for
Fireheart Recruit. Don't attack unless its safe or he takes at least two or three units with him. As soon as you can do enough damage with all your units and overwhelm to finish the game in one or two attacks. Even here i would usually not attack with Jishu or Quartermaster.
Beware that
Acclaimed Artisan on turn 2 and
Granite Acolyte on turn 3 is a very strong combination.
I didn't add any fancy power cards. Of course you can add Seat/Banner/Insignia as you like and have.
So, I guess I'm not the first one to think of this, but i hope you have fun. And its a very cheap and fun deck to start out with which you can buff up with your first card creations.
