With a matter of hours left in the Dusk Road/Dead Reckoning metagame, I managed to re-tool an old deck, Stonescar Midrange, to attack the rather extreme trends we're seeing. I used mostly this deck to get top 30 in the event this weekend. I definitely could have made it even higher, but my last run was ended prematurely at 4-3 because I didn't play around Scorpion Wasp :(
The Deck
Statuary Maiden is the reason for the deck's existence. With wimpy units, Dawnwalkers, and scream decks everywhere, Maiden gets to have a field day. The rest of the deck is just taking advantage of Maiden within a non-armory shell, where she has been used most.
The other core cards are
Dark Return,
Auric Interrogator, and
Shadowlands Tyrant. Statuary Maiden and Auric Interrogator combo very well together, ensuring you can always make him big to draw cards. Shadowlands Tyrant is a long overlooked card, but I think its necessary here. Since you don't want to clog up your deck with crappy 2 drops like Rakano Outlaw, you need some lifesteal to get back in the game, and Tyrant does that well. It is much better than it was before now that
Auric Runehammer is at a minimum, and you can use Cudgels from Maiden to make it huge. Lastly, Dark Return works very well with all of these cards: it combos perfectly with Interrogator, brings back Tyrants with the same amount of attack charges, and is just nice value with Maiden to make sure you always have one around when you need.
The rest of the deck is just strong cards.
Argenport Instigator and
Champion of Chaos are just incredibly powerful cards, the latter of which working extremely well with many cudgels to close out a game.
Crimson Firemaw could be changed for
Impending Doom if you're afraid of Runehammers, but I like the tempo swings it can make given all the 4 drops in the deck.
Furnace Mage probably looks weird, but there are so many Obelisks, Masks, and Permafrosts around that I find it is always incredible—it usually wins the game on the spot vs. tokens when played on an Obelisk.
Flamestoker is there to make sure you aren't just dead in the water to control decks while also making sure you can close out the game, as it's just generally a good card. The rest is of the deck is just
Quarry to help smooth out the deck and removal.
Consider adjusting removal numbers if you feel like you need more, but probably not too much. I find that there are so many x/1 units on ladder that Tyrant and Vara's Favor often get kills quite easily.
Good luck and have fun!
