Iadria decks have long been the best gauntlet grinders and this is my favorite one yet. Let’s break it down.
Pteriax Mount/Toxic Whisp - mostly here to give Adept power but have a lot of utility outside of that. I only ever play them on 1 against hyper aggressive decks.
Feln Adept/Grenahen - both are good early blockers that provide card advantage. The deck is built around getting value from both.
Plunk Wumpkin - one of the best cards ever printed. Valor is messed up when paired with Iadria.
Vine Grafter/Blight Pass Smuggler - our market access cards both double as excellent bricks against aggro. Vine grafter can also be used to give Adept power.
Maveloft Huntress - our primary spot removal, and the plunder comes in clutch in games where we’re starved. One neat trick is that if you imbue Iadria the AI will let her sit on the field forever because it views stunned units as not threatening.
Ziat, Steelwarrwn Reeve - taken Vara’s spot as the best shadow 4 drop. Usually you want to play her before running out an Iadria.
Direwood Pack - mostly here to be power that Grenahen can fetch, but if you don’t need that it can take over long games and become a huge late game threat.
Iadria, Twisted Brewer - the AI cannot deal with this card, you will feel bad for it as it throws away its board because it has no way of understanding how combat works. However the AI does view it as a top priority target for spot removal so try not to run her out if you don’t have to. You at least want to set up one favorable attack phase for the turn you play her.
Black-Sky Harbinger/Tamarys, Earthshaker - mostly here to combo with Moon and work as one sided sweepers, but also can just kill any unit that attacks with Iadria in play. They also trigger frenzy for Adept.
Market:
Saloon Massacre - Wrath effect for aggro decks.
Waxing Moon - Provides card advantage and combos with Tamarys & BSH. It’s better in the market because we only need one and it’s a whiff for Grenahen.
Champion of Cunning - once you have the influence requirement this card is almost always a guaranteed win. Incredible grab with grafter makes it basically unkillable.
Pale Rider’s Timepiece - almost never gonna spellcraft but it’s an insane tempo swing and will usually put you out of reach of a burn out. Great paired with Smuggler for the Berserk lifesteal swing.
Dizo’s Office - definitely the most flexible spot in the market, but I like it because it does a bit of everything you want, but if there’s anything you feel is missing from the shadow market, this is the spot.
Edit: After the nerf to ziat she’s not really best in slot anymore so I decided to do some rearranging. Mother was a long time include for the deck previously and is making a comeback, also added the 4th smuggler to max her triggers and up market access. We’re also trying Serpents Hive for some extra inscribe, it also can be grabbed with hen and triggers Adept, we’re dropping 1 copy of Tammy and a plunk to play it, both cards are often plundered/marketed because of matchup so not too much of a loss for extra power drops. As far as playing it goes I don’t think you’re likely to want to cast hive often but it can break a board stall or put up D against threatening flyers.
