So...
Veena's Masterpiece. This little unsuspecting relic...you'd *think* would be too slow for throne, right? Well, you're probably correct. HOWEVER, the combination of
Master Archivist and
Riftfeeder Wasp basically allow greedy, grindy, 3F time midrange piles to...do just about anything they want, to some baseline rate of success.
So, in this case...I decided to go exploring in an absolutely *CURSED* trifaction--namely TPS. Generally, an archetype without a mark is thought of as stricken, however, where Archivist is involved, you actually *don't* want marks--paying 1 to get a second influence does NOT count towards Master Archivist's uptick, since all marks initially enter undepleted. Meaning that if your 3F only has one painting rather than two, that's the ONLY downside as far as powerbases go in throne. Which...is still kind of rough in this case, since the painting you'd *ideally* like is Elysian painting, as it would mean turn 2 undepleted for archivist in case you needed it, AND primal influence for the cobalt waystone.
Now, onto the deck's plan: those that played waxing moon/Black Sky Harbinger back in the set 10 meta, or even waxing moon back before I made sure Evenhanded Golem got sent into the abyss (and good f'ing riddance) will remember the idea of using the combination of waxing moon and cards like Yetipult, Black Sky Harbinger, and Tamarys to keep the board relatively manageable, while also slowly accumulating card advantage.
Well, now that idea just got a WHOLE lot stronger, since it's no longer bound to just playing even-costed cards, AND found redundancy in its draw engine--namely in Veena's Masterpiece. My verdict on the card is this: it's...honestly an absolute banger, *AND* a throne card--in fact I'd argue it's MORE of a throne card than an expedition card. Cheap? Check. Stats absolutely matter in throne? Check. Already has the support floating around? Check. Basically, think about cards like
Dizo's Racket, Big Wheel, and the Waxing Moon in this deck. Notice how they're all four-cost do-nothing-except-draw-cards-for-life relics?
Well, Veena's Masterpiece costs *half* of that, and also doubles as a pseudo Paladin's Oathbook. Which allows things like...letting Plunk attack into 2/2s (such as
Vine Grafter!), allowing wasps to scale faster than enemy wasps, or just getting critical stats in a format in which letting a stray bit of power leak on doing nothing, or losing the stats war may mean the difference between wins and losses.
Is this the best deck in the format? No. Is it an absolutely optimized list? Also, still no. However, I think it's a good starting point for exploring the card's possibilities, which I am of the opinion are fairly numerous.
Have fun.
