Information

This is my take on Mono Shadow in Expedition. I took the deck from diamond 3 onwards and finished a few hours later with an 27:7 record. Most of the cards in this list are pretty standard (Icaria, Devouring Shadow, Eremot etc.), but I found some spicy inclusions that worked well too. Damara, Deft Saboteur can act as a pseudo removal against smaller units, 3 free damage to finish opponent or Sites of and/or as a simple value option that can also carry weapons. Auric Interrogator works really well with Makkar's Quiver and all of the weapons in the deck and can draw once with Spiteful Strike out of the market. Beastcaller's Amulet and Dueling Pistols work well with Varret, Hero-in-Training, all your flyers (but be aware that weapons on Eremot vanish after his transformation) and Interrogator. The rest of the deck is pretty self-explanatory and the playstile is really straightforward, just try to get a hand with access to 3 or 4 power and some units and maybe some removal and play your basic midrange playstile from there (try to evaluate early if you need to be aggressive or defensive, dependend on the opponents deck and your hand).
Good luck and have fun!

Hey there! I am pretty new to the game (been playing just over a month). I am thinking of crafting the missing pieces of this deck; can you recommend a budget option instead of Damara? I am willing to craft the Verret set but would like to replace Damara.

Also I have a quiver, do you think running 4 is necessary? Does it benefit to have multiple in hand?
LordPerth Eternal Version: 20.05.15
Its hard to find a replacement for Damara now that Two-Face got nerfed. The best option would probably be Dreamsnatcher (a rare) or Makkars Evangel if you want to save dust. Quiver can definetly be good in multiples, but you can try some budget alternatives at the start. The best options would probably Defile (because it is a great removal spell) or Magenta Wisp (not as great as removal, but a bit more flexible as Defile). Hope that helps.

Been really enjoying this deck, currently in mid plat 2 with it. How do you like this deck vs the one that splashes time?
LordPerth Eternal Version: 20.05.06
Good to hear. I didnt play much with the Xenan variant, but it can play Nahids Distillation and Crack the Earth, so it is probably better if you want to go for a slower, more grindy version of the deck. If you want to be more aggressive, like this version, I prefer Mono Shadow because you dont need to run slow fixing cards like Seek Power or interloper and can instead play more gas in the early game without caring for influence. You also never have to worry about hitting the influence costs for Eremot and Icaria on curve.
Leppity Eternal Version: 20.05.06
This is the list I have been seeing a lot of. It's pretty close to yours, I wouldn't even really call it Xenan. 3 Condemn (Set8 #117)
4 Blightmoth (Set1085 #14)
3 Makkar's Quiver (Set8 #123)
4 Two-Face (Set8 #126)
4 Vara's Favor (Set0 #35)
4 Banish (Set2 #207)
2 Devouring Shadow (Set0 #36)
3 Marionette Cross (Set4 #218)
4 Eremot, Mindsplinter (Set8 #327)
4 Impending Doom (Set1 #286)
4 Icaria, First Reaper (Set1087 #11)
3 Karvet, Solar Dragon (Set7 #146)
4 Nahid's Distillation (Set8 #55)
2 Pale Rider's Timepiece (Set8 #144)
2 Vara, Fate-Touched (Set1 #307)
4 Seat of Mystery (Set0 #61)
16 Shadow Sigil (Set1 #249)
1 Time Sigil (Set1 #63)
4 Xenan Insignia (Set7 #184)
--------------MARKET---------------
1 Avoid Death (Set1085 #13)
1 Destruction Chant (Set8 #182)
1 Edict of Makkar (Set7 #123)
1 Ghar, Master Sandmage (Set6 #49)
1 Spiteful Strike (Set6 #186)

Looks good, a bit more lategame oriented then my variant. Distillation grants the deck more reach, but it also slows it down. Banish seems also good right now. If you want to go for a longer game this version is probably better then Mon Shadow, but for a more aggressive version I would still recommend Mono Shadow (at least if you want to play Eremot and Icaria).

Thanks for some really good ideas that helped improved my mono-Shadows deck. In particular, crafting Damara helped me realize that having another 2 drop is really important against fast decks, and she can act as both removal with ambush and value as well. You also helped me realize that Karvet just isn't a good top end any more.

That being said, my deck is still fairly different. I don't use weapons, as I am too afraid of the card disadvantage. (BTW, Unseen Longbow is probably the best weapon for mono-shadow). Once I pulled the weapons, I substituted Dreamsnatcher for Varret, and I put in Dizo, Cabal Racketeer, which is just amazing. (For some reason, Mill is very popular on the ladder right now, and I love grabbing Mournful Deathcaps with it). I also put back Incarnus instead of Pending Doom, and I've won plenty of games with the card I got from Invoke.

Again, thanks for some good ideas!
LordPerth Eternal Version: 20.05.06
Thanks for the kind words. I can understand the point of not playing weapons, thats why I only included weapons that work around the los of card advantage by granting you some immediate impact. Beastcallers Amulet gives you a 5/5 unit (and I usually only play it if I am sure that it can get through, I did also cut one and added 1 more Pistol because it is usually bad if you are behind), Pistol can kill a lot of stuff, especially against FTS (which I consider to be the best deck of the format) and the debuff is even permanent, so void recursion isnt possible anymore and Timepiece usually allows you to kill a big threat or attack for lethal (but you have to be aware of fast spell removal). Dizo is definetly an option if you are facing mill, but I dont consider mill to be that good right now and Dizo isnt that good against most other decks if you dont have a way to utilize the stolen unit because most decks have cheap ways to deal with Dizo. Incarnus is probably better if you play a slower version, but like I said in another comment I like Eremot and Doom more in an aggressive version because they deal more damage and are way harder to kill.
Serus Eternal Version: 20.05.04
Do you think it's possible to replace Damara in this list? That's the only card I don't have a playset of, but I'd like to give this a try!
LordPerth Eternal Version: 20.05.04
There isnt really a card that does the same things Damara does, but you can try to replace her either with another 2-drop (like Dreamsnatcher or Two-Face) or another 2 mana removal spell (like Defile).
Serus Eternal Version: 20.05.04
gotcha, okay, thank you for the advice!
Serus Eternal Version: 20.05.04
Also, I have one more question if that's okay. Have you experimented with Incarnus? I've seen it in a lot of mono shadow lists but I noticed it isn't in this one. What is your opinion on the card?
LordPerth Eternal Version: 20.05.04
I played it in another, more controly version of Mono shadow and she is definetly not bad, but this list wants to be a bit more aggressive and Eremot and Impending Doom are better at that. They also dont die to Blazing Salvo, Sear and other similar small removal.
