Update: Competed my final run, went 7-0. A wildly resounding success.
Most of my experience with deckbuilding thus far has consisted of tentative dabbling in minor modifications to clever combinations I see on the front page (usually to the tune of finding substitutes for cards I don't have the shiftstone for yet). The Dragon's Shadow event sounded like a good opportunity to push myself out of my comfort zone and give building something a try, when I couldn't just fall back on looking at what already existed on the internet. I figured I'd give it a try, maybe get one or two wins, and then switch over to something made (and proved to work) by someone more experienced.
Well, here I am, fourteen wins later, so I guess I didn't do too terribly, huh?
Okay, it's disingenuous to imply that this is built from scratch. I started from a place of 'what do I know is usually included in a Scream Queen/Haunted Highway deck?' and went from there. To be honest there's nothing particularly revolutionary about it as a scream deck; it does what scream decks do. But I will tell you, there is something incredibly satisfying about slamming your opponent with two 4/2 Champions of Fury on turn two.
I've had four losses so far. Two of those losses were vs. Combrei
Alessi, Combrei Archmage (
Stand Together is the bane of my existence); the other two were against FJS, featuring
Inquisitor Makto and
Icaria, the Liberator. They seemed to come down to bad luck on draws as what my opponent was playing. (Ever so helpful of my deck to provide power six turns in a row.)
I would love feedback and suggestions, and am happy to answer questions!
