My take on the Tempo/Maul deck for Cookout event.
These maul decks seem to constitute at least 50% of what I've been facing this event so far. After 2 runs, I've tuned my version to be an anti-Maul Maul deck.
At first I was running a market with Jennev Merchants with 4th copy of Maul there, but it seemed too slow. With all the extra card draw, and half the time opponents Nightfalling as well, market just isn't needed imo.
Anti-Maul tech:
4x
Cobalt Waystone
1x
Eilyn's Favor
Aegis is a must to counter enemy Maul.
2x
Lethrai Soothsayer
Bolts very useful as free removal, face Aegis removal for your own Maul, or as final reach damage. Dilutes deck a bit more for your own deck's firebombs, though somewhat negligibly.
3x
Nesting Avisaur
Put Maul on top of deck to get it off a turn sooner. Helpful especially if playing second. Card disadvantage is more or less negated in this format.
2x
Royal Decree
Get rid of enemy Maul, Counter, other troublesome card.
This list seems to do just fine against other decks as well.
If I end up running into a lot of enemy Decree's, I may go back to a version with market to hide a Maul. Other Market/Main Deck considerations have been Albon Roa, Hailstorm, Cirso's Choice, Swift Refusal etc.
My first deck post of any kind. Let me know if this works out for you. Suggestions more than welcome.
