Most of the Stonescar Sac suite usual suspects are here for all the same reasons:
Grenadin Drone,
Kindling Carver,
Kato, Arena Herald,
Strange Burglar,
Combust,
Devour,
Shrine to Karvet…
Recycle is the MVP here. It’s fast, people! That means you can cast it after blockers are declared. It basically reads, “Activate your Shrine like a fast spell and replace your blockers for 2.” The same 2 power that your opponent is probably still assuming you’re holding for Devour. Which, you can also do at fast speed.
Grind for value until DWD finally nerfs Shrine. I’ll still be playing Stonescar Sac long after they nerf it, but I’ll be damned if I’m not going to enjoy it while it lasts. I’ve already gotten it far longer than I deserve.
It’s important to remember almost every single unit here is expendable. Sac the Carver to trigger Shrine, go ahead! Opponent swept your board? No big, Drone into Recycle and your board is back, baby!
The Rat King replaces
Rat Cage. The king is removal for x/1 units and can drop an x/3 unit to a point it has to exchange with our 2/x units. And. Triggers. Shrine. But, once it has done that, again, fodder. Sac it if you have to! Sac your heirloom with Recycle, nothing is so important that you don’t want to wreck it for value.
Some times the right decision is to sit on Kato until your opponent kills enough Grenadin, rats, and whatever else to activate Kato’s, “I brought an 8/8 to this 1/1 fight.”
I removed
Quarry in favor of
Vara's Authority for the aggro matches.
You’re building game states that force your opponent to choose between two bad options and with practice (and a little luck) you can have a plan for either choice.
Market Notes:
Bore: versus relic strategies, the rare mirror, and the incredibly satisfying edge play when I can send the 2 or 3 cost copy back to the market and do it AGAIN later. Usually only happens in the rare gauntlet game, but it’s a giggle.
Display of Passion: Basically, three spells in my market for the price of one. I would never main deck it because of that FFF influence.
Vara, Vengeance-Seeker: We </3 Aegis. That’s it. (another reason for Authority; see above) She’ll usually eat removal almost immediately, but not before I’ve Combusted the threat under the bubble. We don’t really care about face aegis with this deck and that’s by design.
Induce Madness: I’m almost ashamed how long I slept on this card. Another relic that will lock down a game unless your opponent wastes relic removal on it. Which only serves to make your next Shrine that much safer from interference. Again, not a main deck because In-In-Influence.
Fall to Ruin: A sometimes one sided reset. Enough said.
