I used to run two of these decks prior to this last release of FoX. One had these exact same colors and a fair bit of the same cards, obviously nothing new seeing as I’m not a time traveler. The second variant was actually the same but splashing shadow nightfall cards. Nothing is better than forcing your opponent to take that extra card draw every turn that it’s up. It then ran cards the same as you have here in Primal and Time.. It usually never ran into any issues other than the typical ones found in EVERY deck.. bad starting and/mulligan, power screw, power flood, and blah blah blah.
Glad to see this again as it reminded me to go back and tweak meh own lists now :D
Edit: Oh the other cards at the time that were in the slots of some of these that obv were not there due to not existing as aforementioned were cards such as Baying SerasaurTwilight HuntNocturnal Kyrex and one last Dino which was Horizon Seeker
Personally gonna try playing one copy of Alu Death-Seeker in my market
Also try working in cards such as some of the ones mentioned above after I play with this list a more than fair amount to assess if I can, should, or need to work anything else in even if it’s not a direct 1 for 1 synergy card which most of the cards are (and should be in a deck such as this) but if they’re just highly complementing the decks strong suit then yeah I’ll do it.
If you’re interested I’ll post my updated list asap once I’ve played tonight into the morning seeing as it’s Sunday and it’s gonna be a FUNday.. get it?
SST is actually not a bad replacement. you dont have the same punch as Cykals but you can board control sometimes against speedier aggro decks. +2 borderlands lookout and +2 sst would be what i would do without cykalis. You could also try out ghar if you have him as well as others have suggested.
Was looking at learning more about these mechanics, made the deck. Does very well in PVP, has some trouble in Master Gauntlet with some boss fight formats (all creatures have bond, so unfavorable). Post yeti nerf I swapped out for Twilight Hunt x2. It is not OP, but Nightfall for 1, and giving a Deadly or high damage unit Killer can swing things. Tried out Sodi the MM, Call the Ancients, and Lastlight Druid. Sodi did pretty well for herself, Call the Ancients is nice if you get one, and the druid mostly got in the way. Nice deck!
Could Ghar be a good replacement for the yeti? I know you'll never shift him but he is 1 for a 2/1 that silences flyers. Kind of nice if you end up with a sodi's spellshaper on a gloaming wisp to prevent all possible blockers.
Currently really strong ! I reached easily master with it.
I just have made 2 changes in the market :
- 'swift refusal' instead of 'backlash' (I prefer holding only 1 power and use it only to negate sweepers)
- 'edict of Linrei' instead of 'hailstorm' (a few times I didn't found a speelshaper or an equivocate against a sandstorm titan... edict in market is a descent way to deal with it)
Maul seems like a pretty good idea right now, however I'm confused on some of your choices.
• Hailstorm in your market seems pretty counter-productive and VERY situational. Besides, if you're going to be playing hailstorm on turn 4+, then I don't see any good reason not to just put Crystalize in. Crystalize has so much more reach and actually presents as a win-con in gummed up boards. Adding in a card that can win you games more often than not vs. a super situational card that board wipes your units as well seems like a no brainer to me.
• Adding equivocate over permafrost in the market seems like a better idea as it reaches past endurance and only costs +1 power
• I haven't played a maul list with Royal Decree, to be fair. Perhaps it's sneaky good. It honestly just seems underwhelming and straying away from the main goal which is to pressure your opponent. I ideally want to be playing removal on a unit + casing a nightfall unit -- Or setting up the following turns with a merchant play on turn 3-4.
• Wisp over Scout seems pretty suspect as well. I understand the concept of wanting nightfall - is it possible to play scout while still having enough nightfall triggers? Scout just seems so valuable for a deck like this especially when you can even just replace Snowcrust Yeti with it.
Royal Decree shuts off Even decks which is a huge gain. It’s also just an unforgiving card, and when you’re giving you opponent so many extra cards it’s Nice to have hand interaction that can shut off a wincon.
Actually we tried them and they didn't quite fit. Mainly because 1. You're already taking a lot of damage to yourself from nightfall and 2. You really don't want to decimate your power because you want to get to 6 to play maul. They got in the way more than anything.
thanks for reminding me that elysian maul is still a thing, just made it to masters.
i like your list, one minor change i did was cutting hailstorm, adding one copy of sodis spellshaper to the market. i filled the open slot with the 4th copy of royal decree, abusing the 1 drops for a turn 2 royal decree with onslaught.
without 4 decrees, i think playing the additional 1 drops, namely snowcrust yetis isnt worth the slots. maybe running the new 1 drop borderlands scout would be better anyways, aegis is awesome but theyre so easily blocked.
i really liked playing gloaming wisp t1 and slapping a spellshaper on it t2, given theyre tapped out/not playing red or green for torch/defiance. mutiple cards drawn that early that the opp has to deal with while you continue developing your board is awesome.
I'm glad you enjoy the deck! Everytime i take the hailstorm out of the deck i face so much aggro and really miss it. Its not something I use all the time, but it really helps if they swarm you. If I could play 6 gloaming wasps I would but I like snowcrust yeti as a 1 drop because it its the perfect target for Sodis Spellshaper and it survives to t2 most of the time to trigger Royal Decree. I think the borderlands scout is nuts in expedition but removal is the name of the game in constructed and it dies to pretty much everything.
I think that card is nuts, but the reason I really like the snowcrust yeti is it has aegis. Perfect Target for sodi's Spellshaper and it might actually survive to turn 2 to play Royal decree. The gloaming wisp is just a nightfall trigger which is why it gets the nod.
Well, definitely well positioned in the meta. Just went from D2 -> Masters with a 14-3 record. I forgot how much I love mauling folks. Hope the meta doesn't adjust TOO quickly to its return, or the party is over!
In the great backlash vs unseal debate I can definitely see the arguments for backlash but I still prefer unseal because it stops permafrost. Often time I'm pushing for lethal on board perm breaks it. Plus with the new green 2 drop curse it's better. If you like backlash by all means go ahead I just prefer unseal.
Glad to see this again as it reminded me to go back and tweak meh own lists now :D
