I've tried different factions for Gunslingers, but settled on Argenport. In my experience Fire Gunslingers just weren't impactful enough, although
Hellfire Oni and
Hotbarrel Revolver are certainly devastating in the late game. The two main cards that influenced me were
Stonepowder Alchemist and
Rooftop Vigilante. Any unit-based deck has to come up with ways to push damage across fatties. Since we are not playing any of this fancy Red burn, we need other answers. Stonepowder Alchemist provides both face damage and survivability against other aggro/tempo decks. Buff him with weapons and you'll heal for even more. Rooftop Vigilante basically negates health when trading. Your units wielding weapons are always Deadly and if you happen to apply quickdraw to them, then your opponent can't ever comfortably trade. To punish stalling we also go all in on
Argenport Instigator. Having a few of them on the board adds chip damage. Your curve stops with
Rakano Sheriff, the big bomb that often comes as 7/7 or 9/9. I've considered
Sheriff Marley instead, but when you have so many guns playing around, how can you resist the super-gun of Rakano Sheriff?
The gameplan is pretty straighforward: play small units, make them big and force your opponent into defensive mode for the rest of the game. On average, you will beat
Harsh Rule or deal enough damage so that your Stonepowder Archemist can finish the job. For that matter, preserve your
Finest Hours and
Crownwatch Tactics to save your units for
Hailstorms/
Torches.
The weapon choice certainly can be improved, but I feel like some weapons are essential.
Hideout Pistol is nuts in Gunslinger-themed deck, it kills a lot of early-game blockers. Sniping
Combrei Healer or
Lumen Defender is especially satisfying.
Vanquisher's Blade has proven to be very efficient at blowing out the bigger blockers. Often instead of a board sweep your opponent might play a fattie hoping to stall, and then boom! - Vanquisher's Blade kills it.
Bloodletter could be replaced with
Trickster's Cloak, but I like the Lifesteal aspect for sustain.
Dueling Pistols also can be replaced with
Hammer of Might, because 2 health swing is surprisingly not that impactful. Still, shooting
Rakano Outlaw or
Vicious Highwayman feels good.
For spells, we do play
Slay instead of, say,
Rapid Shot, because sometimes you just can't deal with an opposing unit in any other way. And to replace Rapid Shot, we play both
Crownwatch Standard and
Cabal Standard which turn into unit buffs. This requires more power than usual, because we want to avoid playing our Standards depleted.
I don't consider myself a flawless deckbuilder by any means, so any comments, suggestions and improvements are welcomed!
