I took a 4 year break and came back. I came up with this deck with some of the older cards I had + Skyplitter, which I luckily pulled 2 from the "welcome back" packs I received. This deck is enough to get 7/7 pretty consistently but can get hosed to slow starts, mass removal like
Deep Freeze or
Harsh Rule (know which decks have them an play around it) and of course "god" hands by the AI.
A full 7/7 Gauntlet run can be
found here. I definitely made some mistakes, but overall pretty clean. A second run can be
found here.
Crested Runt - I used to have initiates here, but runt is pretty good as a 1 drop into turn 2 twilight hunt killer vs the aggressive decks. It also is a somewhat relevant late game draw and isn't a dead card like initiate is. Sure you won't get a turn 3 SST or Skysplitter, but it's more synergistic with the dino theme as it also benefits from Dino nest.
Alhed Ascending - This card is just too good and it's a dinosaur to boot. It just does so much: giving your units decay, which makes measly 1/1's relevant, turns into a 5/5 beater or 7/7 with Dino nest and has it's own win condition with its 8T ability. Auto include.
Preyfinder - Draw engine, needed for sustain vs stale board states. It's also good vs aggro as it's outside of Torch range. I wanted to run more copies of this (you can drop some fatties) but feels bad drawing more than 1 copy of this.
Trumpeting Warhowler - I used to run 3, but 4 is correct here. You want everything to have killer, as this is your primary form of removal and if Preyfinder is on the board, it's GG. The good thing about this card is that the AI will prioritize killing Alhed instead of it. So it does stick around for a turn or 2. If you Twilight Hunt it and it sticks around longer, it's pretty much an auto-win as you get too much value/removal out of it.
Sandstorm Titan and
Skysplitter - Okay both are not Dinos, but they're still broken at their power cost. Auto include. The
Advantage you get from Skyplitter is very relevant and can curve you into a T5 Cirso or Ila.
Cirso, the Great Glutton - You can replace with more copies of Ila and Mizo but I really like Cirso. The AI will not fully understand how this card works sometimes. For example, they will triple block and buff a card however Cirso will transform the card into a pig and their card will not benefit from the buff, essentially getting a 4:1 trade. Be careful though, Aegis on an enemy unit will prevent it from transforming. Blocking with it is also funny as the AI will attack into it (with say an
Ashara, the Deadshot and not understand that it'll be transformed into a Pig with no abilities. Cirso is also amazing with Killer, any non-aegis unit's battle abilities are essentially useless and it's overwhelm is very relevant. Combine Cirso with
Equivocate and you've essentially traded 3:1
Ila & Mizo - Just another beater and it's a dino. The copy mastery ability is sometimes relevant and if it goes off you've probably won the game.
Dinosaur Nest - If you can get 2 of these out early vs slower decks it's probably over. You will need to balance putting this out vs aggro decks though as you won't get a "return on investment" for a few turns. It buffs all of your dinos and creates twilight hunt targets in a pinch.
Elysian Blueprints - Nothing much to say here. One interaction it does have is with
Great Valley Smuggler As it's TTTPPP bonus gives you a relic that can buff the smuggler to 4/4. May be relevant sometimes.
Twilight Hunt - The MVP. You are always happy to see this in your opening hand. It buffs your dinos, pushes Alhed and Warhowler outside torch range and smooths out your draws. Great card.
The Market
Forget - Just a cheap card that breaks aegis and takes care of pesky buff cards like in strangers or bolster effects. Revenge is a bonus.
Mirror Image - Using this on Skysplitter, Cirso and Ila and Mizo is just too much value and it isn't particularly expensive either.
Worldbearer Behemoth - Just another fat dino beater that ramps up power for Alhed. It's not necessarily required. You can replace it with anything you want and is flexible. Other options include:
Gnash, Desert Prince,
Passage of Eons,
Infinite Hourglass,
Hailstorm or
Sandstorm Scarf.
Grodov's Burden - Your stalemate breaker. This card is pretty broken as you can just chain Killer. Auto include
Elysian Tome - Not really needed as you're running a 2 power deck, but I don't like mulligaining into 2-3 power hands and getting stuck on 3 power. You can replace with the cards mentioned above, but do so at own risk as you're not running too much ramp as with most Time decks.
After 2 runs I really didn't like Cresting Runt so I swapped them for Kimi, Expedition Guide instead; it still has dino synergy, 1/4 stat line is fantastic to hold the line against early aggro, and her ability can be helpful in a stalemate. Might consider Saddled Serasaur instead for more killer however, especially since the 3-slot is a bit crowded.
I also don't own any copies of Skysplitter so I added a 4th Cirso, and 3x Xenan Obelisk instead - it might be a bit redundant with Dinosaur Nest but it makes our fatties fatter and feels useful enough most games.
