Fliers are good in Gauntlet. In other news, water is wet and the sun is pretty warm.
This deck is pretty much the Fall of Argenport update to a
previous Mono-J Fliers list I've posted, and the plan is still the same as every other flier deck: fly over the board and race to the face.
Crest of Order from FoA was a huge boon, allowing us to splash Primal for
Cloudsnake Saddle and
Linebreaker's Shield for some much higher quality weaponry than before.
Winchest Merchant is also a huge plus, though it almost goes without saying that being able to sideboard on the spot is pretty dang good in an environment as varied as the Gauntlet.
The reason for running only 3 total
Amilli, Cloudmarshals instead of a full set is pretty simple: he's slow and clunky for a deck this aggressive, and his main use is in his big booty making him hard to kill with burn spells, as even
Obliterate from the likes of Power of Fire or Skycrag Sorcery fail to impede the forward march of
GLORY. If you're on a bit of a budget though, you can still replace him with a sufficiently threatening Justice flier like
Valkyrie Spireguard or
Silverwing Commander to maintain threat density.
The Market picks are pretty standard: a Banner for emergency power and/or some guaranteed Primal influence for Saddle and Shield, Vanquish for removal, Amilli for a threat, and Mantle for a finisher.
Reinvigorate is probably the weakest link of the bunch: its main use is as a guaranteed Endurance for the stun-happy decks like Deep Freeze and Chilling Touch, while also functioning as emergency removal as a combat trick. However, I find myself rarely pulling it:
Valkyrie Enforcer would probably be well-suited for taking its spot as having his Silence on call would be quite strong, but I'm unsure of what card to place in the main deck to replace the missing copy. Triple Amilli in the main deck proved dangerously good at creating brick hands, an extra
Crownwatch Standard or an
Emerald Monument would likely be a bit too much depleted power for an aggro deck, and there aren't much cards worth running as 1-ofs.
I still haven't been keeping records of this deck's winrate because I'm still a garbage person (and because I decided to post this on a whim), but it holds up pretty damn well against most of the bosses. Defender of the Spire has to deal with instant 4/3 Lilcarias wearing 9/9 Mantles, Highly Skilled's flier count is lower than yours and loses pretty much all of theirs to Vanquish, Mindless Aggression and Sudden Death hate Lifesteal (especially with weapons on them in the case of the latter), Power of Progress ramps you up to Shield spellcrafts and Amilli,
et cetera.
