Thanks a lot for this deck, it's gotten me my 10 straight Ranked wins (granted, in Silver, where I'm apt to stay) and 2 consecutive Gauntlet clears. And more than anything, I'm just having a blast playing it.
Well, my win streak ended at like 15 Ranked Wins but after playing some more I've managed to hit Gold for the first time ever since I started playing. Still a ton of fun to play!
I feel like zero banish and zero disjunction is an oversight. Also, I'm not sure how much I like sabotage in this style deck. You're not midrange, you're pretty much purely control, meaning your goal is to drain the opponents resources and eventually get to the point in the game where you have inevitability, drawing a card like sabotage late game is just awful, and early game it's not really doing much that removal shouldn't be able to handle. Like what are you looking to hit? The best cards against you are probably sword of unity, flamestoker, and maybe relic weapons. Sword, you should be killing all their guys anyways, plus you have Vara and BSH for aegis, and relics they could easily just topdeck or Tutor up. I think it's hurting you more than helping.
I would probably recommend cutting the sabotages all together, for probably just more removal spells straight up. Also I think switching to Auralian Merchant makes more sense. Azindel's Gift is kinda useless, especially since Channel the Tempest is no longer around, and then the only card you're losing is Feeding time, replace those 2 with disjunction and banish, or a power.
idk, that's my 2 cents
I have tried sabotage in control decks btw, and it was pretty bad, I ended up scrapping the idea altogether
I've definitely considered adding banish to the market to replace Feeding Time since the deck already runs quite a lot of removal and though it's more pricey I already have cleaver for the same roll. It's a change I'll try out, especially after running into Valk decks with Cauldron. That card is a ridiculous value machine in the long games I have against Valks. Now, as for Sabotage. First of all I love hand information. Second, this deck doesn't win through Channel the Tempest or Sword of the Sky King so in some matchups Sabotage can really help my units stick which is important for me to get damage in. In control matchups where they have a hand chock full of removal I now know thanks to Sabo, and can instead prioritize their card draw and race to get Gift down. And like you said Relic Weapons/SoU are a pain in the ass. It's nice to deal with them preemptively. Also, in control matchups the extra removal would make the matchup even worse for my deck whereas against midrange, I already have a deck favored for the matchup. Maybe the school of thought is to just focus on strengthening your strengths. What do you think? Azindel's Gift has won me too many games to drop from the market. With all this said I will definitely take your criticism into consideration and try some things out. Thank you for your input. In return I would like to ask your thoughts on this control deck that also run Sabos and Gift post balance changes. https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/details/XF_pRUcwnWI/rank-1-argenport-control
Honestly, your deck just doesn't seem favored in a control mirror against a JPS or Argenport list running sotsk. I almost wouldn't even hedge against them and just focus on the strength of TPS control, which is vs mid and aggro. Alternatively, you could just play cards like dark return, or Ayan, does something similar to snagging removal with sabotage.
Hey, I thought I'd let you know that your criticism has helped me adapt my deck even further. Instead of running sabotage I've been running Rindra's Choice as additional removal like you recommended I do and it's been stellar. Azindel's, Rindra's, Tavrod's, you name it, I now have more answers than just ICB. Also because of the increase of relics and a drop in control decks I'm trying Burglarize over Azindel's Gift so I finally have relic removal. I went Burglarize because I still like the Kerendon Merchant.
Or so you do think that it's best to focus on the decks strengths. I can understand that because trying to cover all bases can make a deck too weak overall. I do like your idea of running more threats over sabotage rather than more removal as it does kind of fill that spot of pulling an answer out of the enemies hand, and if they don't I'm further ahead. I'll test it out for sure
Oh and I didn't even touch on the Merchant comment. Excuse me. I like the Deadly 2/1 more than the +1 Max Power 0/4. My deck is quite consistent on power and isn't in much of a hurry to get from 3 to 5. Deadly trades or burns removal way more than Auralian merchant will. It's an extra body for when you drop Azindel. Finally, I really like Gift. I actually ran Auralian Merchant first in this deck and have had an increase in success since taking her out. But, that could also be due to changes I made at the same time as the merchant switch.
The Jotun Hurlers used to be Unstable Form. Snowball is a nice Aegis popper for unit and face, an Oni Ronin/Auric Runehammer/Kerendon Merchant slayer, and a disposable card for market or strategize. The Hurler himself is an additional body for the deck which can come in handy as a wall for aggro or just to have another blocker/way to push damage since the deck is unit light, and of course he too can be market or strat fodder. You'll fall in love with Hurler the first time you get lethal with a snowball too, but in case you don't keep innovating and tweaking my list. You could go back to Unstable Form, or maybe switch to Levitate, but Hurler, I like him.
I'm sorry to say but Harbinger is basically irreplaceable in this deck. Harbinger accomplishes a lot. Life gain. Evasive threat. Aegis popper. Value upon summoning especially against oni ronins/grenadins/other Azindels. A way to easily proc Azindel through the summon effect. It's a card I crafted extras of for this deck because I realized it was a definite 4x card.
