Hey guys, back again.. and I’m so BLIND to not have seen the Sorcery + Cost combo.. it’s soooo good, and this version, without having units, makes it super reliable that you aren’t wasting your turns playing units that in the end can get killed, or wasting a turn, pulling from the market.. it’s been edited 3 times to account for matches I had no answers to, and currently, the only weakness is that I have no real way to deal with relics.. so I has to become a race with those matches.. every other match, is winnable by far... hitting for 24 damage lifesteal, or even 12 damage lifesteal swings games instantly and results in a lot of scoops..
I’ve come to believe, that Forbidden Research has to be named as MVP.. drawing cards while gaining the crucial influence is HUGE.
The deck is simple. Only cards that draw or deal damage. Wrath of Caiphus to help with mana issues, and late game, it’s awesome to find pieces with a fresh hand. 30 power so you shouldn’t ever get screwed on mana. (Opt to keep a 3-4 power hand. 3 with a draw spell, 4 no matter what).. flooding is not a bad thing. We want mana, and this deck is hungry to gain influence. The fastest I’ve gotten the combo off was T6, and that game really sold me on this build... I played my usual 20 games, and I have lost 6... that to me is a pretty damn good ratio, and I’ve also had control, aggro, and combo matchups.. the only games I lost was due to not being able to grab Cost at the right time, or the opponent being able to consistently gain life over multiple turns.
The deck will take a few matches to understand what you are doing, but in laymen’s terms.. just draw as quickly as you can and stall the opponent.. “At Any Cost”... (see what I did there? Lol)
Anyways, I hope you enjoy the deck, and while there are other versions out there, this one is unitless and a blast to play!!
Thoughts and comments appreciated as always!
UPDATE: minor adjustment to the mana base so that we can get some kind of face protection. Dealing with some burn and frogs is tough when all it takes is one turn to prevent it. Will continue to test, but man of man! It’s awesome when you pull an insane combo and the deck comes together, especially when it’s evident you’d lose the following round!
UPDATE: games continue to be a blast, but really struggling with non-weapon relics and removing them before they get out of hand.. most times I can find the pieces before anything happens, but there are plenty-a-times when that’s not the case. Minor adjustments to the mana and cards for a little bit more of a chance is early interactions. Will continue to test!
UPDATE: so I decided, I HAVE to figure out some way to include relic removal, and this was the way for me to do it, through slight mana changes and transpose.. the only odd thing, is that I feel like the mana draw has been choked somehow from this.. the deck is still winning, but now only when I draw lands.. will continue to test, but this is by far my favorite build!
One thing I really didn't like was drawing Savage Incursion, Prodigious Sorcery, and Channel the Tempest early game.
You're right, relics are issue #1. Fire however should not be an issue. Extract is amazing there. I was using Vara's Favor; really helps against so many of ohse fire 1-health cards. Cards like Clan Standard can help against relic weapons. That or adding a simpleton Lightning Strike.
Transpose. Transpose. Transpose. Transpose. Face shields are nice. Also, these help add the burn damage to opponent's face. Maybe take out an aegis of theirs'.
Also, a lot of 4 drop cards that really help a deck like this:
Rain of Frogs
Bam, Sneakeepeekee
In Cold Blood
Silverblade Menace
Rejection
Wasteland Broker (you can transpose "IN" the card you want to broker)
You may even want to keep either Savage Incursion or Channel the Tempest in the market - just for brokering. Because these are cards you don't want until late game.
Annihilate is gud.
Also, really suprised to not see Re-Read. Re-read is a MUST.
Another option is to splash the Time faction. Simply for the cylixes. You'd have access to 8. But another reason is you could put Saber-Tooth Prideleader in the market. Your answer to relics.
But I'm guessing the relic you're having issues with most is Grodov's Burden? Bam can help with that. IF you're able to Bam it.
1 Backlash is good too. You can Prodigious Sorcery/Re-Read them if needed.
I feel you on playing your own style and version. I always just like to toss ideas around.
I thought of another card. From Below. But you might only mainboard this if you're splashing Time. Would be great against relics early, but would be difficult with all that onfluence you're gaining to keep it where you want. Also it transmutes into a unit so...
Shadow/Primal have dittily for relic removal. One of the few cards I can think of isFormbend. They recently buffed the card to make it cost only 1. The issue is... You'd have to play Formbend. Turning their burden into a 5/5 unit doesn't seem very effective. Sure you kill a relic but meh.
Stealth Strike is amazing. Also amazing to re-draw this. Mega value town.
I'm bummed I didn't have the 35K gold in game to play in the recent event because they were handing out 4 promo At Any Cost just to join it, and I only currently have 1 At Any Cost. Laaaaame.
Cool deck! ^__^
I made a version with no legends aside from them based on a winning list but I haven't done well with that. I think the lack of Rindra's lifesteal plus replacing them with draw cards made me waste my power on draw spells and die more quickly. Extract looks like a better idea.
What's your win percentage looking like?
If that's not an option you need a card that could just screw your opponents hand up. Shakedown or something similar. Just my 2 cents hope it's worth something
