PURPOSE:
I use this deck to quickly fulfill the
Shadow Warrior quest "
Deal 100 damage with Shadow cards in Versus Battle." While it does win a reasonable amount, it prioritizes damage.
NOTES:
There's lots of self damage, which works just as well as enemy damage for the purposes of this quest - the damage still counts even if the unit damaging you has Lifesteal, which lets you go to town with
Fenris Nightshade, though no curses were included in this deck, since they wouldn't lend immediately to damage, Lifesteal, removal, or recycling.
Nothing else here has much subtlety beyond saving a weapon for your
Auric Interrogator, or encouraging your potentially high self damage cards gain Lifesteal. (For instance,
Argenport Instigator is a good carrier for the
Surgeon's Saw even if you're not using the Spellcraft to cast
Dark Return.) Well, I suppose there
is one subtle thing to note...
Xenan Lifespeaker provides two kinds of value, but many people seem to think of it mostly as having value in its inspire. Prioritize using its Ultimate since you have seven ways to recurse it, after which you can Ultimate it again. After a single
Dark Return, it should be an 8/8. We don't want the opponent to kill it before it has Ultimated. Instead, it should die on our terms, though it's usually not necessary to suicide it, since most opponents will feel that they should use removal on it.
In some cases it's worth waiting until turn 3 or 5 to drop it. Wait until turn 3 when you can ultimate the next turn, in order to reduce the opponent's response window. They will probably have something else in mind for their turn 3 or 4. In the other case, ultimate the same turn as you drop it. Especially choose to wait if you have a method to return it form the void in hand, though sometimes it should instead be used on an Interrogator. (Always stop an think about how your
Dark Return can provide you with the most value.)
If you have two of them, and have no other prospects and need a draw with Lifesteal, or have good distractions, it can be dropped earlier, though most of your other units will immediately communicate its value to the deck, making it a higher priority target to any opponent looking beyond the amount of damage you can attack or defend with on the current turn.
