Welcome to Draconic Control. This is a 5-faction control deck that uses a core of dragons as win-cons, with some subtler interactions that help enable such a slow and influence-dependent strategy.
I do want to preface things by saying that the deck is pretty silly/casual and in its current state, I wouldn't bring it to a tournament. However, I think it has potential, so I want to get some more eyes on it and see what we can do to improve it.
Individual card discussions and other notes:
-
Second Sight is great with both
Nictotraxian and
Thunderstrike Dragon, which is why I 4 of it and only 3
Strategize.
-
Common Cause is turned on by a single
Thunderstrike Dragon or any two other dragons, so it's usually a better
Diplomatic Seal, and when it's turned off, you can usually slowroll it by playing crests until you find enough dragons.
- I'm still toying with the powerbase, but I feel the number of crests is close to right. The trick is to have enough to give you the influence you need while not slowing you down too much.
- The only Justice card in the deck at the moment is
Nictotraxian, though I've toyed with 1-2
Rise to the Challenge. Because of this, you'll be hitting your single Justice influence off a
Memento Mori or errant
Seek Power. You need to prioritize Primal influence the most, since you need triple Primal for 7 cards in the deck, and double Primal for a bunch of early-to-midgame cards. Next is Fire, which you'll also eventually need triple influence of, and double for
Crimson Firemaw. After that, your priority should be getting either Time or Shadow, depending on whether you draw a
Memento Mori or not.
-
Kaleb's Choice feels great in this deck, which is why I run 3. Enemy
Xenan Obelisks combined with time fatties are brutal, so it's good to have a reliable answer. It's also great against Primal control decks, where you can counter
Channel the Tempest and remove
Permafrost. Another card I've been countering a lot lately is
Assembly Line.
- Decks with a lot of Aegis units are really tough on this deck, which is currently pretty removal-light. Watch out for that.
- Big endurance units are a problem.
-
In Cold Blood is pretty brutal against
Nictotraxian, so watch out for that too.
I'm looking for any constructive feedback, so let me know what you think!
