Shrine to Karvet is still good! This deck has gone 18-4 from gold 3 to diamond 3 this month. Mother is your primary token generator here, but it shouldn’t be the end of the world if you don’t find her for a while.
Notable inclusions and exclusions:
Shrine to Karvet: 4x in the maindeck because having to find it by finding a merchant just felt clunky. This way, you can find it off of a draw off of a sacrifice and immediately play it.
Blightmoth: even pre-nerf, felt like wasn’t doing the job as well as I’d like in expedition post-Awakening, and being SS in a 3-faction deck made it hard to play on-time.
Unfamiliar Interloper: fixes influence, pumps the team with
Strange Burglar, can be sacrificed without losing sleep over it.
Nesting Raven: really a pivotal card in here - it’s a zero-cost, zero-unit lost sacrifice that blocks well against most early-game attackers.
Annihilate: kills off the Ascending cycle, as well as Milos, who can’t be allowed to live, and SST which can be a pain in a flyer-heavy deck. Suffocate is probably reasonable in this slot as well, which will hit Rolant who otherwise requires TTS.
Power: could probably be tweaked? Goal is to get PP really early to get Mother and Mobilization online, then worry about the rest when you get cards to play. I prefer chant over petition since there’s only one cylix type in the deck and the invokes can be relevant.
Market:
Display of Knowledge: this is kind of a flex spot, but the idea is to fetch a shrine as a last resort. Grab the T influence with an interloper once you’ve passed FFPPSS if you think you might need it. I was using
Steam Blast in this slot before DoK was added, which needs FFFF to be most useful, which can sometimes be a pain.
Shadowlands Guide: can pick up Nesting Raven or Kindling Carver from the void to enable a free sacrifice in the lategame, while providing another body.
Edge of Prophecy: always felt a little clunky in the main deck since this version can take a while to generate the tokens to make it playable. A single copy in the market ensures that you draw it at a useful spot.
Turn to Seed: basically grab this for stuff like SST, Rolant, Iron Tyrant, Diana, Alhed, Jarrall where future copies would cause problems when they come down. Even at 4 cost it’s important to have something for troublesome units.
Backlash: for Shen-Ra Speaks, essentially. I rarely grab this but when you can stuff those kinds of spells it usually wins the game.
