So, this was an idea I came up with for grins, that is actually particularly effective against greedy decks like Chalice and such. It also was something I felt like doing after the Hooru cards in Horus came out.
Nostrix, Lord of Visions would be INSANE in this, if you wanted to be even greedier yourself, but I don't have him and think the early game control is probably too important to drop cards for him. My first writeup included even sillier cards, like
Hooru Teachings, which I cut because by the time it would be any good, it isn't really needed anymore, and it was only a 1-of, and
Mirror Image, which didn't work because I didn't have enough draw.
All of the Mentor cards in the deck are supposed to be used on
Inquisitor Makto, and so is
Tranquil Scholar, especially since you can get skills you can't mentor.
Tranquil Scholar and
Aerialist Trainer are the primary anti-aggro cards to stall until
Harsh Rule or
Inquisitor Makto. Obviously your worst nightmares are Silence/void-hate, though if you have an aegis up on him, he'll dodge
Steward of the Past's effect, and you can block a Steward and Protect him to prevent the silence.
I've thought about running one less
Eilyn's Choice for one more
Harsh Rule but that specific choice seems to come down to meta; are you facing more aggro or heavier late-game decks? I really like Eilyn's for any match-up with Parliament/Aid, since I've had it massively help against either.
Strength of the Pack is mainly a cheesy/fun way to take all your mentored buffs on one Makto for a second with the same keywords. It's not necessary, I just threw it in because I happened to pull one forever ago, and this deck is actually a viable one to run it.
If you did take one of the others out, it'd probably be Spellshield Architect
