I was not expecting this deck to go 7-0 while drafting - signals felt all over the place and I ended up going four factions with somewhat sketchy fixing. Then I kept winning, and winning, and came to the conclusion that 2x
Cover From the Storm (backed up by 2x Mandatory Recruitment) is pretty good.
P1P1 was
Shadow Sketch, followed by P1P2 Mandatory Recruitment and P1P3
Cover From the Storm, at which point I leaned into the stealth theme with stuff like
Merciless Officer and
Nurturing Sentinel. Thought I was going to end up being Elysian for most of the first pack, possibly splashing Shadow, but it also felt like Time dried up pretty quickly, which made reading signals difficult. The last few picks had really good Justice cards, which complicated things even further.
Going into packs 2 and 3, my colors were looking to be a mess, so I drafted fixing rather aggressively - Blueprints and
Seek Power were good pickups here. I also got stuff like
Ancient Serpent and
Duelist's Blade. There was even a late
Battle Bear that I drafted, but ultimately cut due to the difficulty in hitting JJ influence.
Pack 4, things felt like a train wreck, as four-faction decks often do. Decided I was primarily Feln, splashing Combrei, at which point I focused on just taking whatever seemed good.
Deck ultimately ended up going 7-0, so apparently it was less of a train wreck than I thought. I don't think any of the games were actually that close - the deck definitely felt a bit slow to get going, but it had a bunch of X/4s to stall things out while waiting for a prime spot to play Cover From the Storm, which was regularly a 3-for-1 or better. The things that could survive were turned into 2/1s by Mandatory Recruitment or otherwise dealt with, leaving my opponents with few things left over.
D'Angolo Might and
Ancient Serpent also felt great.
MVP: Cover From the Storm. Board wipes are good, especially in multiples.
Highlight: using
Illicit Exchange to draw extra cards with D'Angolo Might... then playing Ancient Serpent and doing it again.
