First off, credit to Kibitt on the Eternal discord for helping me hammer this list down.
After getting to rank 1 with Shadow Prism Jekkslayers last season, it was time for me to get back to my true love: combrei ramp and playing units with disgusting value. My first iteration of this was straight up Combrei and based off camat0's list, adding
Gentle Grazer, but it was really inconsistent and weak against aggro. I started to experiment with splashing shadow, which led to me eventually cutting etchings entirely in favor of a
Wasteland Broker market.
This is a deck that pairs
Diana, Faith's Shield and
Rolant, Iron Tyrant, two cards that are great against most matchups. The manabase is green-heavy and, in combination with the
Enter the Monastery, getting the green influence is rarely a problem. For the time and shadow,
Petition does a lot of work, grabbing the exact power you need to fix early (thus the single justice and time symbols) and essentially functioning as a treasure trove and power welded together when you grab Cylixes late.
The third member of the threesome is
Maeve, Walker of Aeons,
From Beyond's transmute. From Beyond is an outstanding early game tool that you can use to slow down fire decks or punt
Turn to Seeds out of the hand of control decks, and Maeve is a body who increases your deck's threat density and draws cards for you late.
This package of units, along with Wasteland Broker, are all multicolor or colorless and thus can't be hit by annihilate, which is being run by every single black deck out there (which makes up a solid half of the meta at least).
Backbreaker and
Massive Greatsword help in a ton of matchups, particularly against Helio, the Skywinder-based Primal control. I suspect this might be the best possible shell for backbreaker: Enter the Monastery gets your justice influence up fast, and the time gives you access to
Turn Back Time, which can allow shenanigans like a recurred 8/18 axe.
Getting a Backbreaker down fast is your only real maindeck solution to the Worldpyre matchup, with market Equalize and Silverwing Menace being the other.
Noteworthy cards that were in some permutation of this deck before but didn't make the final cut:
Gentle Grazer,
Time Etchings,
Desert Marshal,
Touvon, Skybreak Giant. Cards I haven't tested yet that might be good:
Svetya, Lightbringer. I suspect there's a version of this deck that runs a justice market, but I haven't even started testing that yet.
The deck is a beater against aggro and other midrange decks, has a chance against Worldpyre, and most of all is a blast to play. I'm happy to listen to any card suggestions you might have.
I've been playing a Svetya, Lightbringer deck in throne and I think she needs a SUPER unit-dense deck to be really good. Like, 30+ units. It just feels so bad to play her, wait 6 turns to draw another unit, and then die before your 20/23 dude she helped create gets to do anything.
