A total blast from the (not-so-distant) past, Alessi is back with a vengeance, not because of any fancy new toys, but because she's found a couple new BFFs:
Pearl Abbey Smuggler and Kira, The Prodigy. After toying with Haunting Scream in JPS, it became clear that Kira isn't really the best thing since sliced bread. She is however, incredibly powerful and amazing with a ton of the tools Alessi already wanted access to, with PAS being nothing more than Alessi in the form a smuggler, this deck simply had to show up eventually.
In order to pilot this deck effectively, you have to be prepared to make trades, but only after you've found your path to victory. Use your life total as a resource; bide your time and don't use tricks unless you're getting maximum value.
Your worst enemies are Vara and Sandstorm Titan. If you expect your opponent to play one of these fatties, save your equivocates, or, if you have a smuggler, simply fetch
Pristine Light. If you don't have one, you have a hard fight ahead, but with clever use of combat tricks. Vara can be beaten in a race with the right combination of levitate,
Rilgon's Disciple or Kira, finest hour and gift of battle.
Barricade is also remarkably useful and turns Kira into an absolute monster.
If you have any experience playing with this archetype, it goes without saying that
Stand Together is unparalleled. It might be the single best reason to play the deck. It is often worthwhile to hold it up several turns in a row if you're ahead on board against a control deck. It's so easy to close with all of these tricks that slamming stand together ASAP is usually not a good idea, as it opens you up to aggressive removal lines. Mastering Stand Together is simply the most important element to playing with Alessi and Company.
