This Argenport Reanimator deck is a modern take on the classic
Vara, Fate-Touched/ pre-nerf
Azindel, Revealed combo. The aim is fairly simple. Load up your void to combo off on one big turn with a reanimation spell.
Units like
Darkwater Vines,
Spitefeeder, and
Sporefolk help to fill the void from your library while
Steyer's Eyes and
Back-Alley Delinquent can help you pitch a
Vara, Fate-Touched or
Icaria, First Reaper that has become stranded in your hand or pitch a
Privilege of Rank to keep the power flowing.
Chairman's Contract and
Fear also aid in filling the void and triggering your
Darkwater Vines.
The deck runs a relatively high number of
Justice Sigils but this is important to make sure your
Privilege of Ranks and
Steyer's Eyes don't whiff.
The ideal combo involves early turns of filling the void, with the hopes of being able to reanimate
Vara, Fate-Touched into
The Rat King. This will trigger Vara multiple times allowing for even more reanimation. Assuming your opponent doesn't have a board wipe or lethal fliers this will often end the game quickly.
Another important note about
Darkwater Vines is that it mills cards from the bottom of your deck. This allows you to strategically scout away reanimation targets and
Privilege of Ranks with your
Crest of Vengeance, knowing they'll be milled and not drawn.
CONSIDERATIONS
-Is
Grasping at Shadows or
A Life For A Life the better card to maindeck? Grasp is better on an empty board but being able to play Alfalfa turn four leads to the deck's most explosive plays.
-Should the market sweeper be
Saloon Massacre or
Vara's Authority? Probably a meta call based on whether you see more Rakano or aegis Yetis, but there are times where one does what the other couldn't. I considered
Fall to Ruin but that seems like a losing strategy against aggro.
-I've replaced
Vara, Limitless with
Icaria, First Reaper. Having a unit that affects the board immediately seems worth losing the lifesteal and reanimation potential.
-I'm trying
Back-Alley Delinquent in place of
Exploit since I was finding myself too often with a huge unit stuck in my hand and you want to keep your unit count high for
A Life For A Life.
If you take this deck for a spin, please let me know what you think. Thanks!
