ive found we werent winning alot of long games but was in need of some tempo to close out medium/long games. Could just be the way I was playing. Its true we dont have that many sources of card advantage so the tempo would have to be worth it.
As an avid alessi lover, I've been playing around with similar. Incredibly impressed with the versitility of regents tomb in this list. Hojin is a big bonus as well. So far not impressed with makto and awakened student.
Glad you like them. I thought about Makto and couldn't really decide, it depends on what removal people are playing. Lets try Makto for a bit and see how he does.
This style of TJS deck plays very differently from a Tavrod's House of Standsticks deck, but the Auric Interrogator, once switched on, is still one of the best draw engines available in these colors, especially with Stand Together being both an activator and a protector to keep him around in one convenient package. He's also nicely statted for his place in the curve.
They all have their advantages, not positive which is best yet. I think nightfall is pretty valuable because the curve is relatively low and the deck needs a critical mass to pull off all the synergies. 1-cost is good with Alessi, Hojan, and the market Tavrod. I especially like being able to play Hojan + power + Twilight Hunt for a 6/5 lifesteal killer that plays a free sigil on turn 3 without exposing Hojan to slow removal.
I'm testing with Xenan Initiation, and liking having the extra four activators for the Auric Interrogators. They stick a little more than 50% of the time, and end up being more draws than the single nightfall trigger would have, so I think I'm sold on them. There is definitely an argument for the 1-cost versions, though.
I'm more accustomed to slower TJS Tavrod + Sword of Unity styles of play, though, so that just may be my inherent bias towards midrangey play.
Sounds reasonable. If you want to play Tavrod and Sword, you could switch out Stand and Finest Hour. Also swap the market Tavrod for Stand. Maybe switch 2 Annihilates for Lost Scroll. Same basic idea, higher curve.
I enjoy your various iterations of Alessi decks, thank you for sharing them with us!
Isn't Initiation better because of Interrogators?
